The Worst

1

I am not a complainer, but Alitalia is one of the worse airlines. I booked a flight with them in 2004, and it was my first trip abroad. They wouldnt let us on the plane for our connecting flight in Miami. They ended up rerouting us through Spain, and the airline employee was so rude. I was asking questions and complaining on why they wouldn't let us on the plane and I was told, "This is not the US." They should be shut down. Service Horrible.

Bring Food With You

My one flight on Alitalia Airlines was an overnight flight from JFK to Rome. The seats were your average business class airline seats. It was comfortable for the duration of my overnight international flight. Service Alitalia Airlines offers a number of flights to major international airports throughout Europe and to a number of other international airports located in North and South America. In addition, Alitalia Airlines offers a number of flights to smaller regional airports throughout Italy. In-Flight Accommodations The in-flight accommodations offered on my Alitalia Airlines flight left a little to be desired. Seeing as how I was seated in business class, I was expecting at least a somewhat edible meal. Unfortunately, what I received looked like something that was served on United Airlines or something. I was not impressed. Maybe I would have had better luck if I had pre-ordered one of the specialty meals that are offered.

First and last time!

1

This summer was the first time I have ever taken Al-Italia, and it will definitely be the last. I bought this ticket because it was cheap, and you definitely get what you paid for. Still, it was beyond terrible. It doesn't matter how cheap the ticket is, no flight should be this bad! It was a round trip ticket on an international flight with layovers, and there were so many things wrong. I wouldn't even give this airline one star. For example, the meals were laughable. On the flight from Rome to Chicago, breakfast was a small fruit bowl that contained a couple small pieces of pineapple, a few slices of kiwi, and exactly two grapes, as well as a sandwich (if you could call it that, since it was two miniature pieces of soggy bread) of two slices of cucumber and a piece of tomato. I kept trying to turn it over looking for the lunch meat or at least a piece of cheese, but there was nothing. That was it. Also, the service was horrible. The flight attendants were rude. Not to mention on the flight from Rome to Tel Aviv, after we boarded the plane and sat waiting for 45 minutes, we were told to leave the plane because apparently there were 'technical difficulties'. We had to get off, take out all of our luggage, get on a bus back to the airport, and wait. Then when the plane was apparently fixed, drag our luggage back to the bus, and drive back to the plane where we reloaded our luggage and finally left. All in all, not comfortable in the least. Al-Italia has all the bad qualities of airlines combined in the worst possible way. Take it only if you wish to have an uncomfortable, irritating, aggravating, and frustrating trip.

There are far better airlines out there

Alitalia might be very competively priced, but they do have their problems.  The flight attendants are not the nicest.  One time I had two of my three kids with me and my daughter was sleeping when "dinner" was served.  So when she woke up I had to ask like 3 times to get her dinner.  And they were not very happy to get it for me, they told me there was no more food.  Really?  I paid all that money for my child's ticket and you tell me no food on a 10 hour flight?  The other thing is that on the connecting flights I have had to wait so much longer than the ticket said, so stressful when you have kids with you.  I believe if you travel without kids it might be different.   Service I do not have an update on my review. I have tried my best not to book with Alitalia when traveling to Europe. I want good service when I fly, and I don't think Alitalia provides it.

Alitalia Robbed Me

1

Before I purchased some Gift Cards that Alitalia offered, I made a phone call to Costumer Service to confirm the Card use, restrictions and conditions. The agent who responded the call told me that I could use them the way I explained. Once I purchased and tried to pay the airline tickets with the Gift Cards, it showed all kinds of restrictions that I was not notified before. After spending hours on the phone with the Airline, they refused to give me a refund. Now, I have $1,186.98 worth of "Alitalia Gift Cards" that I cannot use. I definitely feel that Alitalia robbed me.

Chose another air company for your travels. It will save you a lot of frustration and anger. Service I travel often and the one and only time I used Alitalia was the worst experience I have ever had in my life.

Fly Air France

Plane from JFK to Rome old and shabby, upholstery didn't fit seat, sat on the seam with a headphone connection that had been pulled out of seatrest and never fixed. Food poor. Bathrooms not cleaned, cabin crew surly.   Had to turn back due to ill passenger. Landed in Boston; spent 1.5 hours on ground--at least an hour more than needed.  Cruising speed not increased after departure. Landed 3 hours late. Then, the real troubles began:  First bag came off belt 45 minutes after landing! Second bag arrived 5 minutes later.  A number of bags arrived in teminal hour and 15 minutes after landing, but 50 passengers still waiting.  Tried to file claim for lost baggage but Alitalia ground staff refused to take it.  More bags arrive in terminal hour and 30 minutes after landing, but 25 passengers still waiting.  Tried to file claim for lost baggage but Alitalia ground staff refused to take it.  Two of our three bags arrived hour and 45 minutes after landing, but we were out of time to file claim as had to catch cruise. Cost us $125 for shuttle to cruise (forget the train).  Had Costa Cruise purser contact Alitalia regarding missing bag.  Alitalia replies: "sorry, but lost baggage claim Must (!) be filed at airport.   Try to file claim prior to departure.  Alitalia replies: "sorry, but lost baggage claim Must (!) be filed day of arrival." Still, they admitted having traced our bag to New York, and "promised" to send a telex to JFK with instructions to send the bag to us. They didn't. (P.S. Our departure flight on Alitalia to Paris on 19 Nov left an hour late.) Thankfully, we flew from Paris to LAX via Air France, a wonderful airline. After our return home , we made repeated attempts to contact Alitalia via the phone numbers and email addresses on their website; finally, we got through! "You're lucky," we were told, "We were about to send the bag onto Rome." (Not surprising, considering that when we picked it up in LAX, our bag still bore an AA luggage tag directing its forwarding onto FCO (Rome) two weeks earlier. But, eventually, Alitalia-JFK did send our bag to LAX via Delta and it only cost us two-hours of road travel and $3 for parking to retrieve it.

Awful airline, lasy employees

1

We returned from Milan, Italy to JFK on Nov. 15th. I guess we were lucky we didnt run into the strike mentioned by another. Nonetheless, the flight attendents were anything but attentive (and we were flying business class). More interested in plaing video games on a laptop up front. We land (almost on time) at JFK and I witness something I have never seen in 40 years of flying. While taxing to the gate, all the passengers stood up and retrieved their belongings fromn the overheads. AND THE ATTENDANTS DIDNT SAY A WORD! We weren't even close to the gate and still moving.Major safety violation.I'm all for that Italian "Le Dulce Vita" attitude back in Rome. But on the airplane? Please!

Worst airline ever!!!

**DO  NOT  FLY  WITH  ALITALIA!!!**Trying to get back to the states from Italy took three days with Alitalia. They went on a "scheduled" strike after checking everyone's bags in and were not helpful at all with getting people other flights. We were in line at the airport for three days!!! **(yes DAYS) **Alitalia employees at the airport were rude, not very sympathetic and would not give anyone information about what was going on. Come to find out... this happens a lot with Alitalia.

Alitalia may be no nonsense, but it offers meals and is on time.

I have used Alitalia twice in the past two years, once as a student and once for vacationing. Both times the service was far superior to domestic flights taken here in the states.  The attitude of the attendants is very different but once you are accustomed to it, it is rather nice. Enjoy!
