Summary
This is a great book for a 3 year old. It is lyrical, repetitive and fun for a young child to say.

Plot
Alexander tells his story about having a bad day and wanting to move to Australia. He gets gum in his hair, can't buy the shoes he wants, some of his friends don't like him as much, his teacher gives him a hard time, he gets smashed in the car, pushed in a puddle, and messes up his Dad's office among other things.

Downside
While the book is a fun one overall, there is some strong language for small children. For example, I pass on reading a few pages just because I think they are too harsh. He talks about hating things and I recall him wanting to hurt someone with a tack. (but I often skip it, so I don't know the exact language)

Ah. I've never seen this book before. Then again, I spent some of my formative years abroad, so I must have been too old to have read it when I finally returned Stateside in 1972....or maybe the book was not written then?

This is the one of the first books that I memorized as a kid, and I remember trying to impress my mom because I knew how to 'read' it. One of my all-time faves! Even on terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days!

What a great review of a great book! I can STILL recite it from my childhood! "I went to bed with gum in my mouth and woke up with gum in my hair..." It's unbelievable to see how much this book has stood the test of time. I read it when I was little. Wow.

Some words are harsh? I don't remember. :-) I was undoubtedly a few years older than three when I got my hands on the book though. Loved the review! A stroll down memory lane...
