I don't generally like putting any kind of drug in my body at all, but when I have aches and pains, the first thing I reach for is Aleve (generic name: naproxen sodium). I was originally introduced to this by my doctor, who suggested it for my monthly PMS and menstrually-related pain. She told me naproxen sodium is stronger than ibuprofen or acetaminophen, and if the regular dosage of ibuprofen I was taking was no longer eliminating the pain, to switch to naproxen sodium.
I did, and she was right! I won't even use ibuprofen anymore unless it's my only choice available for pain, and now that new findings have shown the possible liver damage done by acetaminophen, I avoid that altogether.
The one thing I would recommend highly in using naproxen sodium, whether it's the brand name Aleve or you buy it in generic form is, take it as soon as you feel pain settling in. If you wait to take it after you are in intense pain, it will take longer for it to eliminate that pain. Head that pain off at the pass with some naproxen sodium before it has a chance to grab you, and you'll feel a lot better a lot sooner and a lot longer. Also, if you are in intense pain, take 440 mg at first, then cut back to 220 if you think that will do it for you.
I even used this after surgery as soon as I could to wean myself off the hydrocodone I was given for pain. This works for whatever ails you!
