I have heard lots about the Aldi stores.  I finally took my first trip there a few weeks ago and I was pleasantly surprised.  This place rocks!

One of the first things I noticed is when you arrive you must A: bring your own bags (or buy some from the store) and B: you must put a quarter into the cart...

My wife loves to shop at Aldi's for meats and canned goods. They always have great prices, clean stores and even a section for non food items. These tend to be the "As seen on TV" type stuff and in the warmer months they have swimming pools items, lawn chairs and grills.

All of their meats are great...

I had never heard of Aldi Foods until a few years ago when I started a new job and two of my cubemates were discussing the benefits of couponing.  Turns out that they were really into it for the great deals that can be had.  They kept mentioning this place called Aldi so I finally asked about it and stopped there on my way home that night and became an instant fan.

Aldi stores are small.  They're only about the size of a drugstore, if not smaller, but packed full of good quality items for a great value.  I can't do all of my grocery shopping there due to the limited selection but shop Aldi as...

We're on a tight grocery budget, and Aldi has been a lifesaver. About 75% of what I need every week - dry goods, cereal, baking supplies, canned goods, frozen food, dairy, vegetables, etc. - is there, and all of it is less expensive that at a traditional supermarket. Every Saturday morning, I visit Aldi first for the basics. Then I go to a larger supermarket for the remaining items.

Biggest money savers: cereal, yogurt, pre-cooked sausage, canned chicken, canned tomatoes & tomato sauces.

Things Aldi lacks: most spices and sauces, exotic or local vegetables (they usually have carrots, celery, peppers,...

Anyone that's been in an Aldi Food Store knows they are smaller than your everyday SUPERMARKET.  That's what I like about them.  I know they don't carry everything; I can deal with that.  I can get in and out usually very quickly.  So what if it's a 'generic' brand if it's just as good?  PRICE MATTERS!  I'm on a fixed income.

Those giant SUPERMARKETS are a nightmare to me.  For example...you need mustard.  As soon as you walk in the door you see a stand with one brand of mustard on sale.  You grab one.  Then, out of curiosity, you wander back to where they keep ALL the mustard.  You find...

I was checking out at the Aldi Foods store in Pekin, Illlinois, today, Thursday, June 5, 2008, at 4:37 p.m.  The cashiers name was Kathryn.  In front of me was an elderly lady and as Kathryn began scaning my items the lady asked Kathryn to please check the price of some apples she had purchased.  Kathryn, in a very rude tone of voice stated, "I ain't got time for that".  The elderly stood silent for a moment confused.  She then pushed her cart towards the door.  Kathryn then began unloading someone elses order into my cart and charging me for their items.  When I told her those items were... review »

ALDIs is a dream come true during a time of high oil and gasoline prices.  At ALDI the prices on staples such as milk, sugar, eggs, orange juice, cereal, frozen shrimp, salmon are the prices of a year or more ago at the "regular" markets. I belong to Sam's Club and have realized that ALDIs prices are LESS than Sam's most of the time!  I love the German coffee, German preserves, Austrian chocolate.  I don't eat processed food, so a lot of what ALDIs carries does not interest me, but some of the produce is good such as potatoes, onions and apples.  The tomato sauce is comparable to Newman's... review »

Choices are limited but If you are a fairly creative everyday cook that doesn't have a set agenda or need a fancy "shopping experience" ALDI is excellent. They also have a lot of packaged goods and staple items, as well...

It took me a while to check this store out, I fiqured it was low cost generic food. Boy was I wrong. Although I don't do all my shopping there It sure does help out on the family budget and has some great qualiy foods name brand and aldi name brand.

I have noticed that Aldi's prices have gone up quite a bit lately. Prices on some items have gone up so high, I've been able to find the for less at a major grocery chain like Jewel. Don't get me wrong, I still shop there because you can get a better deal on most of the products, but I find myself having to pay closer attention to the price of some things that are sold for less at other stores.

Last night I stopped in your to your elk grove, Illinois Aldis to pick up some 1/2 & 1/2 for my morning coffee.  Went up to check out and the man said that he was closed and another cashier would be up shortly.  So another lady and myself went to next register to wait.  He was too busy to check us out but not too busy to stand and talk politics with the man that he just checked out and all this time we waited.  He did manage to hit the bell a few times to call someone up.  Still talking politics while we stood there and waited.  Is this how you train your cashiers??  To stand up and leave... review »

I am so thankful for Aldi! There are a few things that are not so great (the boxed potatoes for instance), but for the most part, the quality for the price is great! Their meat, especially, is excellent quality for a low price. It has saved us SOOO much money on our grocery bill! I have also bought special purchases several times with no problems. And with my recent ban on Wal-Mart, it really helps us keep our grocery costs down. (I have also reviewed Wal-Mart if you are curious)

Tip: Aldi only stocks in the morning, so if you go in the AM they will have a MUCH better selection than if you go...

I have to agree with other reveiwers, that staples come at a great price.  I was expecially pleased with their canned tuna because I was getting national brands and getting black specks in them.  I was leery of trying Aldi's tuna and was very satisfied with it.  Their frozen skinless, boneless chicken usually has less fat attached than from your regular grocers.  Since it is frozen, it is usually easier to remove.  However, besides the chicken, I will only buy their 90/10 ground meat.  Any lower ratio has more fat than you get at the regular grocery stores.. I have also bought corn beef...

i have recommended aldi to so many people and everyone has thanked me and become regular shoppers there.......aside from the best prices (by far!!!!) anywhere, the taste and quality of most things are awesome...........they even have certain specialty goods (canned olives, olive oil, antipasto type mushrooms and artichokes, coffee etc) that are about half the price of most place, yet are not only comparable but superior in taste........this is a company that should also be commended for its business practices.......they save on overheads to keep prices low but their employees and customers share... review »

This store has been such a lifesaver for my family. We operate on a VERY tight budget and I am always looking for ways to save money. My In-laws had recommended this store to my husband and I so we went to check it out. Let me start by saying that if you are the type of person that must have "name brands" this is NOT the place for you, but if you are willing to try store brands then this place is unbelievable. They do carry some named brands and I have usually found them to be at good prices. I will also tell you that all of the things I have purchased there have been very high quality and in... review »
