Sometimes I just stand and gape at the prices.

Pros

good quality products, really inexpensive, cashiers are lightning quick, cheap staples, great for those on a budget

Cons
national brands not always a good deal, not for those who dont use store brands, lines can get long, can get really busy, only take cash and debit

I had never heard of Aldi Foods until a few years ago when I started a new job and two of my cubemates were discussing the benefits of couponing.  Turns out that they were really into it for the great deals that can be had.  They kept mentioning this place called Aldi so I finally asked about it and stopped there on my way home that night and became an instant fan.

Aldi stores are small.  They're only about the size of a drugstore, if not smaller, but packed full of good quality items for a great value.  I can't do all of my grocery shopping there due to the limited selection but shop Aldi as more of a supplement to my local grocery store.  I shop there about twice a month to pick up certain items that I prefer to buy there as they are good quality at a low price.

The foods are private label and sort of a store brand.  They are starting to carry national brands here and there but they are not always a great deal and I only buy national brand items there if I know it's a better deal than at Kroger.

Although I buy lots of things at Aldi from tomato and cream of chicken soup for 35 cents to breaded butterfly shrimp for $3.99, the thing I really love to stock up on is staples like eggs, milk, flour, and other baking supplies.  I can buy all of my holiday baking supplies like chocolate chips, brownie mix, sugar, flour, salt, spices, shortening and more for a tiny fraction of what I'd spend at Kroger.  My husband and I routinely fill up a whole cart with food, staples, paper goods, and cleaning supplies and are amazed when the total is only around $50.

As Aldi is quite popular lines can get a little long at times.  The cashiers move very quickly though which always amazes me. Also, you have to either bring your own bags or buy their bags for 5 cents each and you also have to bag your own groceries.  I bring my own bags and am happy to bag my items myself as it saves me tons of money.

I agree with her statements. I live near Howell,Michigan 31 miles away from the Owosso and Lansing Aldi stores. Since an Aldi distribution site is in Webberville, Michigan would it be possible to get an Aldi store in Livingston county? We would love it and business, we believe, would be good! As it is now, we only get to shop there a few times a year. A store closer to us would be very convenient. Elizabeth McLearon
