Aldi is hit or miss

value conscious, a busy person, practical, a person who likes a bargain, quality conscious, a bargain hunter, budget conscious

Pros

great for those on a budget, cashiers are lightning quick, good quality products, really inexpensive, cheap staples

Cons

lines can get long, national brands not always a good deal, not for those who dont use store brands, can get really busy

Aldi (or ALDI'S as people in Western New York call it) is a great place to save money, but you have to know what to buy. Some products are excellent substitutes for name brands, while others are way lacing in quality. I won't really go into specifics. You have to know what you want from a product and know what you are willing to accept as a substitute for your favorite name brand.. For example, I like Nutella chocolate hazelnut spread. In my opinion, the Aldi brand is exactly same as Nutella. The exact opposite can be said for their toasted O's cereal, which is a poor substitute for cheerios. Your own palate will tell you what's acceptable once you try their products. The good stuff is really good, and the bad stuff is really bad.

Don't go into the store expecting variety. If you want taco shells, they have one brand and that's it. No size or flavor variations. Also some products are not available all the time. If you want garbanzo beans, keep your eyes on their ad because they are only available a couple times a year and usually fly off the shelves quickly.

Upon checkout, bring your own bags or be prepared to pay for them. I usually find an empty box in the aisles and use that.

The no frills style of Aldi will save you money. If you are one who needs to be pampered when shopping, stick to your big name supermarket. But if you can find the Aldi brands that suit you, this is the place to shop for some (not all) of your groceries.
