My wife loves to shop at Aldi's for meats and canned goods. They always have great prices, clean stores and even a section for non food items. These tend to be the "As seen on TV" type stuff and in the warmer months they have swimming pools items, lawn chairs and grills.

All of their meats are great and a good percentage of them are frozen. They always have chicken, beef and pork in the frozen section and very good prices on them. I love their pork chops as they are nice and thick and cook great on the grill. Their hamburger is very good and they always seem to have them in patties frozen which is great for the grill and you can use what you want and put the rest back in the freezer.

The canned goods are always good deals and every vegetable you can think of is there and plenty of them too. They have a great selection of crackers, chips and cookies as well as pancake mixes, syrup and nuts. They carry big jars of cashews. pistachios and peanuts too.

Now for the bad side of Aldi's

Yes there are a few drawbacks that just irritate me bad about them. For one they link the shopping carts together and you have to insert a Quarter to get one, you get it back when you return the cart to the cart corral though. The problem is the mechanism that holds them together is a little hard if you have arthritis in your hands like I do. Also if you grab a cart while in the store they tell you that you cannot do that as someone else paid a quarter for it! BIG F'in DEAL! I have even offered them a quarter from my pocket and they still complain.

I don't mind the quarter deal but it is a pain if you have no change as you have to wait in line to get change. But I hate using the dang carts when they are hard for my fingers to operate on some days.

The other gripe I have is you can see a dozen workers around the store yet you have only one register open. With that there may be 10 people in line waiting on one cashier. You would think they would open another one but NOPE! They would rather watch you wait in line.

Bottom Line

I will go with my wife on occasion but I do not go by myself for the reasons stated above. If they can't get you checked out in a reasonable amount of time I have no use for them.
I will admit it is a very clean store and I have been in an Aldi's in 3 different states and they were all clean. The parking lots are even kept in a clean manner so that tells me they care about image anyway. The quarter deal on a cold rainy and windy day is Terrible! Even though they do sit under an overhang you still get wet and have to fight the dang slot to get a cart. They need to fix that or get rid of it all together.

Poor guy....lol Last time I did venture there they had big bunch of green onions for half of what they were elsewhere.

OK, I am mean...took my husband there and didn't tell him about the quarter for a cart. I had one ready, but thought I would have fun with him LOL. But I will only buy green, yellow, and red peppers from them. They are fresh and the price is super. I almost bought a red pepper from my normal food store and it came up to over $2 for one. I can get three at Aldi's for about a buck. I hear ya on the check out line...we have the same problem up here in Appleton.

Even worse...the self-check out stations. You should get a discount for using those!

I don't either, like a lot of discount places they know you want to save money so they are not worried about losing you. Heck of an attitude to have though.

I wouldn't do well in those long lines!
