Albuquerque, New Mexico Review Summary

If you’re heading to the American Southwest, consider a stop at Albuquerque, New Mexico’s largest city. This city combines old world charm with some modern amenities and reviewers like the mountain scenery, cultural activities, and low cost for entertainment and basic tourist services. “New Mexico’s Biggest City Moves to a Mellow Mood”, in the mind of one reviewer, but another points out she is “Disappointed in Downtown Albuquerque” because, among other reasons, the downtown is desolate once the sun sets in the sky. Old Town is interesting, but the overall feelings about Albuquerque place it in the lukewarm category for Vacation Destinations in the United States.

It's not hard to find reasons to like Albuquerque --- New Mexico's largest and most widely known city. It's a city that tells fascinating tales, liberally laced with local Indian lore, and it's a city whose historical riches are eclipsed only by the innovative local restaurants, blending hispanic… read full review »

My husband and I had been looking forward to celebrating our fifth anniversary in New Mexico and Albuquerque was the first stop on our trip.  We were a little disappointed in the downtown area and weren't sure if we had gotten our hopes up too high for a fabulous time in New Mexico.… read full review »

My Favorite Mountain City — Families, couples, adventurers, and students all love this thriving city at the foot of the Sandia Mountains.   It might be hard to spell - think Al-bu-Quirky - but you'll have no trouble entertaining yourself in this beautiful southwestern destination.   Indian and Mexican culture, great food, lots of art, professional sports, the world-famous Balloon Fiesta, gorgeous adobe architecture, and a tramway that goes to the top of the mountain are just a few of the reasons to book your trip to New Mexico's fun capital. — Why You Should… read full review »

Albuquerque, to be frank, is an average big city. Downtown is kind of decrepit, although struggling to be reinvigorated, particularly the few blocks of Central from I-25 to 8th Street. Other than that, everything you've seen about Albuquerque on "COPS" is pretty close to reality. — — You may find yourself there anyway, since it sits at the junction of I-40 and I-25, a crossroads that is difficult to avoid if driving east-west or north-south through New Mexico. What to do? — — Old Town is worth your time. It's quaint, if dominated by souvenir shops, native art shops… read full review »

I stayed at the Hyatt downtown when I visited in August for a conference.  The convention center is an average conference location.  Thank goodness for free wifi there. — — The Hyatt was great, but the surrounding area kinda sucked at night, since nothing was open late and I was told its kinda dangerous around there. — — Also stayed at the Hilton on a cheaper rate.  Was not impressed at all, other than the nice pool and spa which was one redeeming quality.  Expensive restaurant and nothing special.  And oh yeah, the world's hardest bed. … read full review »
