My Favorite Mountain City — Families, couples, adventurers, and students all love this thriving city at the foot of the Sandia Mountains. It might be hard to spell - think Al-bu-Quirky - but you'll have no trouble entertaining yourself in this beautiful southwestern destination. Albuquerque, to be frank, is an average big city. Downtown is kind of decrepit, although struggling to be reinvigorated, particularly the few blocks of Central from I-25 to 8th Street. Other than that, everything you've seen about Albuquerque on "COPS" is pretty close to reality. — — You may find yourself there anyway, since it sits at the junction of I-40 and I-25, a crossroads that is difficult to avoid if driving east-west or north-south through New Mexico. love to travel, budget-conscious traveler, interested in cultural experiences, not rich
I stayed at the Hyatt downtown when I visited in August for a conference. The convention center is an average conference location. Thank goodness for free wifi there. — — The Hyatt was great, but the surrounding area kinda sucked at night, since nothing was open late and I was told its kinda dangerous around there. — — Also stayed at the Hilton on a cheaper rate. Was not impressed at all, other than the nice pool and spa which was one redeeming quality. Expensive restaurant and nothing special. And oh yeah, the world's hardest bed. …
