After one of my friends practically forced me to read this, I fell in love with it. Alanna: The First Adventure by Tamora Pierce is one of my favorite novels now. The novel starts out with twins - Alanna and Thom of Trebond. Now that they're ten years old, their father plans to ship them off for training. Thom is to be sent to the capital to be trained as a knight, while Alanna is to be sent to the covenant to learn to be a propper lady. Neither of the twins likes this plan, Thom wants to be a mage, not a knight, while Alanna wants to be a knight rather than a lady. Unfortunatlly, their father...

I first read this book when I was 9. I finished it, got a drink and started from the beginning again. That was 13 years ago and Ive read this book over 200 times.

This is Tamora Pierce's first book and they are all excellent.

Alanna wants to become a knight while her twin brother wants to become a mage. Alanna disguises herself as a boy, "Alan" and goes to the castle to start her journey as a page. She makes many friends, including a prince and the King of Thieves as well as an enemy in a Mage Duke.

This is the first book in a quartet, The Lioness Quartet. I highly recommend this book as well as...

Alanna, is got to be my second favorite book of all time, just because of how Tamora Pierce writes, as if I am in the book with the characters. I just adore this book so, actually I love the whole series, so if you have not yet read this book or the series (this is book number one) then go out, check it out of the library or go out and buy a copy, it is definitely in your best interest. :)

Alanna: The First adventure is only a taste of what is to come from this wonderful writer, who is one of the few I would recommend to anyone, any time, and have. Following Alanna through her journey as a page, through the ups and downs, doubts and triumphs is a joy every time I reread this. I've gone through several copies, through lending and readint the bindings off of it.
