Most HelpfulAlamo really surprised us with very strange business ethics! To sum up my experience:
Alamo personnel give customers false information (about reimbursement and about car details).
Alamo cannot handle special requests (we needed a special car and tried to solve this in advance).
Alamo rather takes short term money instead of building a long term relationship with a satisfied customer.
The whole story: We made a reservation from Germany and rented a car in Reno. As we planned a camping tour, we needed a stow & go car because we intended to sleep in the back. In order...

Voila! Your wish has been granted........by the clever folks at Alamo. Now they offer online checkin. Check in by computer before you leave your hotel, get off your plane, walk to the car lot, pick out your car, and the last few logistics are done at the gate before you drive off the lot.
Alamo's online check-in is available at several airports
Atlanta, GA, Charlotte, NC, Chicago Midway, IL, Chicago O'Hare, IL, Cincinnati, OH, Cleveland, OH, Dallas Love Field, TX, Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX, Denver, CO, Detroit, MI, Ft. Lauderdale, FL,...
I usually rent from Hertz where I have Gold # 1 status, but found that a recent rental in West Palm Beach, FL, was half the price if I went to Alamo.
I needed a car which would take two large suitcases and two small ones, and the Alamo website advised me that an intermediate Pontiac would fit my bill so I reserved it.
When I arrived at the airport counter, I was given a very hard sell to upgrade to a SUV. I was told that I wasn't guaranteed a Pontiac -- just a "similar" car and that what was available may not handle my luggage.
That was untrue. I was given my choice of four cars (none of them...
read full review »Alamo do not offer pick up service, and I had to take a taxi from the hotel to their rental office. Trips to Disney Anaheim and San Diego Seaworld. Staff didn't advice there is a price difference if I check the car out from Anaheim and return it at San Diego. Needed it a car seat, and staff brings the car seat to the office but not to the car, then proceed to give me the wrong parking number. I had to carry the carseat all over the parking lot looking for the car in 100* temperature, then spent another 10-15 minutes in the heat trying to figure out how the carseat works. No walk -thru...

I work in software design and was called down to troubleshoot the latest Atlas rocket that was to be launched on Friday Nov. 13th 2009. I drive a corporate car for business, insured by my comapny, and rent from Enterprise at least 4 times a month. I have NEVER had an issue with Enterprise but had to rent from Alamo since they were the only ones open when I would be arriving. The reservations were made, including all pertinent information (License number, etc.) I arrived at the rental counter at 11:30 pm, and...

When we went to sign the contract my spouse gve them the wrong credit card to cover the insurance on the vehicle .We had used Air Miles for this vehicle and were already having to pay $71.00 .When I told them to change it to another card we were told it would take 10 minutes to do this and the car insurance that I have been paying the premiums on would not be adequate. So we ended up adding another $75 to the bill.
When we went to get our Ecomomy vehicle they did not have...

Our family had car troubles in the remote parking lot at the Indianapolis airport late at night...so we needed to rent a car to get home, a two hour drive away. To make matters worse, my young son had a broken leg and was in a wheelchair! Knowing we were dealing with towtrucks and a child in pain, Alamo rent-a-car still managed to nickle and dime us for additional charges beyond the confirmed amount we were given on the phone (I had made a reservation while waiting with my children at the baggage claim while my husband was dealing with the car in the remote parking lot). In addition, the...

The day arrived and things were going fine until we got to Orlando. We got to the luggage pickup and since she was in a wheelchair, having broken her leg a couple of weeks earlier, my wife stayed to wait for luggage while I went to find the Alamo counter.
When I got to the counter the gentleman began asking questions and filling out paperwork. I made the mistake of telling him that my wife had set things up, including the car rental. He quoted me a price...

We used Alamo twice, once in 2008 in San Diego. They were supposed to have a Buick Lucerne for us, and when we went to pick it up, they didn't. The guy was a little smart, said he only had a Cadillac CTS (ummmm good), cost more. Wanting to get on the road, we took it. Thoroughly enjoyed this car cruising to Palm Springs and back. Called Alamo after vacation, and customer service took care of the extra charge. The best deal combo was using Southwest & Alamo as their partner, could not beat the price anywhere on the net. Yea. Easy check-in. Last year we did the same, but used Alamo's...
read full review »This was probably our 15th, maybe 20th experience renting a car from Alamo. And the only complaint we have is the ordeal at the rental counter declining all of the 'extras' they want you to purchase. For our July 2009 extended weekend car rental in Seattle we got an OK price.... though once again could not believe the song and dance you had to endure at the counter. Do you want to buy extended protection, gas, insurance, doo-dads, and so on and so forth??? Given the atmosphere at the rental counter when we declined all of the extra charges I was somewhat apprehensive with the whole contract....
