Our family had car troubles in the remote parking lot at the Indianapolis airport late at night...so we needed to rent a car to get home, a two hour drive away. To make matters worse, my young son had a broken leg and was in a wheelchair! Knowing we were dealing with towtrucks and a child in pain, Alamo rent-a-car still managed to nickle and dime us for additional charges beyond the confirmed amount we were given on the phone (I had made a reservation while waiting with my children at the baggage claim while my husband was dealing with the car in the remote parking lot). In addition, the "national" (outsourced to India, it seemed) Alamo phone number and manager had absolutely no power to remedy the situation as they claimed that the Indy location was a franchise.
The salesperson used hard-sell techiniques and was combative when asked for remediation a few minutes later. "We have you on camera accepting the fuel recharge option!" she yelled. (fuel recharge option = buying a full tank of gas, not being charged per gallon, another scam to watch out for) Also was charged 11 some-odd dollars because we picked up the car twenty minutes early (even though I told the reservation agent that I wasn't sure exactly of pick-up time because my husband was waiting for a tow truck). Not sure why they didn't adjust drop-off time instead of charging us...seems very suspicious. When asked to explain additional charges, the salesperson repeated soemthing along the lines of: "Why are you hassling me...I gave you an upgrade, didn't I?"
Evidently, they don't get it. Consumers would rather have honest and kind interactions over "upgrades" any time. What a heart-less company.
