Alamo —

My wife and I took our first vacation in decades.  We used a travel agent to set things up.  My wife did the fine tuning of details.

The day arrived and things were going fine until we got to Orlando.  We got to the luggage pickup and since she was in a wheelchair, having broken her leg a couple of weeks earlier, my wife stayed to wait for luggage while I went to find the Alamo counter.

When I got to the counter the gentleman began asking questions and filling out paperwork.  I made the mistake of telling him that my wife had set things up, including the car rental.  He quoted me a price that would cover our stay in Florida.  As it was, the price this gentleman quoted me was lower than what the agent had said it would cost.  I learned later from my wife that the agent had told her it would cost a little over $300 to rent the car for our stay.  The gentleman at the Alamo counter quoted me a price under $300, but I was ignorant of this information and he caught it, and started with a pitch that was Greek to me.  By the time he was done the bill was something over $500.  It didn't sound right; it didn't feel right, but there I was, stuck with it.

We're finally at a point where we can consider travel and vacations, and because of that $200 I can say I will never go to Alamo, National, nor Enterprise for a car unless compelled to by circumstances beyond my control.
