AirTran airlines got mixed ratings from Viewpoints members. If you are looking for cheap flights, AirTran is your airline. If you are looking for good customer service, you may want to reconsider. Many budget conscious travelers report they were "pleasantly surprised by the price" and that their overall experience was “pleasant”. My step daughter who is 9 flies in to Atlanta 2 to 3 times a year. We have tried all the airlines who come into Hartsfield Jackson. The only airline we will use now is AirTran. They are kind, conscience and the most important--my step daughter is comfortable flying with them.
They are the lest expensive carrier by far (plan ahead) and their unaccompanied minor fee is the least expensive of any carrier. They will allow the whole family to go to the gate to greet the passenger where as Delta would only allow one parent to go to meet them.

I recently traveled to see a family member. I selected Air Tran airlines because their rates were cheaper than any other airline, and I was on a limited budget. I went from Charlotte to Atlanta without a hitch, but when I got to Atlanta to fly to St. Louis, everything fell apart. An hour before my flight to St. Louis was scheduled to depart, I went to the gate to wait and noticed the flight screen was blank. I inquired about it, and was informed that the flight had been cancelled. This was due to weather, which was not the airline's fault, however, Air Tran never made an announcement...

AirTran is a great low price airline! They give you free soda, pretzels and headphones!!! The price you get is the price you pay and it's always lower than other airlines in my experience of "low price hunting"... I fly AirTran often and recently a friend of mine flew to Florida a day after me and left the same day as me...she fle another airline. We encountered a storm, but my flight still went off without a hitch...hers on the otherhand was canceled and she had to stay in FL an extra night as a result.

I have used Airtran several times when flying. I am always looking for the best price and usually always find it with AirTran. I recently had to change my daughters flight and everyone I dealt with was pleasant, helpful and courteous. Checking in was a breeze and the flight uneventful with friendly flight attendants.

Airtran lets me stay Flexible
I often need to fly to more than one city while out of town. I've only found two airlines that let me do that affordably in the USA and Airtran is one of them. Airtran also has an amazing list of cities it flies to - covering most of the country. You will be hard pressed to find a destination they don't serve.
One-Way Tickets Rock
I love to buy 3 or 4 one-way tickets and, as my Italian teacher says, "Keep-a-goin'." Airtran offers one-way tickets to each of its destinations and keeps the price affordable, particularly when you book ahead.

I boarded to jet in Chicago, set for Atlanta. The flight crew took so long to get us boarded that they came over the intercom to say "We lost our take-off place in line and will update you on our status in an hour." Later they came on to say that it was due to weather in Atlanta and all of Atlanta was grounded - this was a complete lie! I called my fiance who looked up the weather in Atlanta and checked their airport's website - beautiful weather and temperature with not a cloud in sight! *I found out later that they use the "weather" excuse... review »

We travel Airtran frequently because they offer a non-stop flight to Orlando which is where we travel to alot (in-laws live there). I have never ever had a problem with them. The only time I ever had a luggage issue was with another airline (flew to Texas-luggage was a day later). I love the low prices, the good size plane, (hate those little prop-jobbers) and the dependability. I think alot of how you experience customer service is all in your approach. We were stuck in Orlando once because of a huge Northeastern snow storm and the people were all very nice and kept us informed the whole time....

In November 2007, I purchased my first AirTran ticket for a New Years trip to Florida with friends. Magically, once all of my credit card information had been submitted the flight went up in price over $80! After a two hour phone call with "customer service" that eventually lead to my transfer to "customer relations" I was given an $80 credit to use on ANY flight run by AirTran or its subsidaries (Frontier) within the next year. At that point, I felt they had redeemed themselves by taking responsibility for my bad experience.

My husband and I decided two years ago that we would simply prefer to pay a little bit more to fly on an airline that felt a little bit more quality. "You get what you pay for" running through our minds... This year, we went on a vacation with some extended family, a total of 6 people, and the airline choice was kind of made for us. "No big deal," we thought... "Save a little money, it's been two years since flying AirTran, perhaps it's not as bad as we remembered."
