I saw this when it was in the theater, even though it cost me 9$ to see, but I felt I had to see on the big screen. I'm glad I made the choice to see it!  Now that it's been a few years, you can still rent it, but just make sure you watch it on a good tv in a dark room to really enjoy it.

Plot
The movie begins as Aeon voice-overs the society she lives in. Most of the world was infected with a disease and only a small 1% were saved when a cure was found. These 1% live in a small city, behind walls, and under watch. Everything outside of those walls is overcome with nature. They are the only living humans left and they only take up a small section of land.

Aeon tells us she is one of the rebels. They don't like the way the society is being run, or the way they are always being watched. While Aeon is on a mission for the rebels, her sister is killed. She takes this very personally and needs to go after Trevor Goodchild, the man in charge. She is determined to kill the man who killed her sister and she's got orders from the other rebels to do him off...but something doesn't go as planned. I won't tell you anymore! You'll enjoy it more if you know less. Will Aeon accomplish her mission? Watch and see!

Actors
Charlize Theron is truly a versatile actress. First she's playing a horrible lady in Monster, now she's playing an action-packed superhero type character. She was fantastic in this part. She was really convincing as this super-human woman and you could see the anger in her eyes as she went after the truth. (As seen in Trapped, The Italian Job, The Devil's Advocate, and Hancock)

Aeon: I had a life once. Now all I have is a mission.

Marton Csokas plays Trevor Goodchild. He is the leader of this small town and is credited with saving the town. We see at the beginning that even though the rebels think he is evil, he is struggling with something. We don't know quite what, but he is having a hard time practicing his speech so we know that somethings wrong. (As seen in The Bourne Supremacy, Star Wars II, Lord of the Rings and more)

Those are really the two main focuses of the film. All other characters fall into place pretty well, some on the side of Aeon, some on the side of the government, and some we don't know what side they are on until the end!

Interest
Although some people seemed slightly bored, I was fully entertained. It did get a little slow at certain parts, but that was because things needed to be explained. The plot was taken in many directions so you were never fully sure what was going on. Was Aeon a good guy or a bad guy? In fact, who are the bad guys? You won't know until you watch it because I'm not telling you!

I had never seen the associated MTV cartoon so I went into this with a clean slate. Perhaps that is why I enjoyed it more than some of the other theater goers. I guess if the show is just like the movie then you may already know the plot. However, as one who hasn't seen the show, I didn't know what to expect at each plot turn.

The best way to enjoy this type of movie is not to focus on every little detail. Enjoy the overall story, the overall action, and the overall special effects. Don't sit there and try to over analyze it. If you calm down, and just watch, it is enjoyable :)

Visuals
The movie was visually amazing. There were so many special effects that I couldn't keep up with them! This really felt like a futuristic society where many things have been upgraded. For example, a belt that when worn would transfer you from room to room. Or doors that are circular and open automatically. How about some weapons that are flat... then round balls... then bombs!

Action scenes were all over the place. It was matrix-like in the special tricks and movements the characters would do... but unlike the Matrix it moves very fast. Each scene is a must watch! Even if you are bored by the plot, you will enjoy the visuals.

Genre
This is action/sci-fi/adventure. The sci-fi is evident in that we are placed years into the future, and as I explained in the visuals this society has made many advancements. Action is everywhere as Aeon must fight off those that are after her. But there is a story behind this action. The plot keeps you engaged and wondering what is really going on in this society.

Rating
The movie is rated PG-13 because there is no visual sex or swearing...however it seems it should be a tad higher. After all, Aeon's pajamas look like a swimsuit from Victoria's Secret. There isn't a lot of scenes like this, but if you prefer your young ones don't see this then know that they are there!

Conclusion
The commercials enticed me to see this movie. I never even knew it was based on an MTV cartoon until I was on the way there. I found it to be entertaining, exciting, and interesting. I would love to watch it again. At least this time I'll know when the blood is going to happen so I can avert my eyes! My favorite part of this movie was that (kind of like Matrix) there was a lot of different special futuristic things going on at every turn. If you enjoy an action packed movie, or if you just like Charlize Theron, go see Aeon Flux today!
