I have been plagued by sinus problems for as long as I can remember and even though my condition isn't serious or really anything to worry about, it can still get very annoying since it can interfere with other things. It can dull the senses of smell and taste and cause a distraction that continues throughout the day if left untreated. One product that helps eliminate sinus and other related problems is Advil Cold and Sinus Caplets, an over the counter medicine with many benefits.
Cold Medicine Commentary:
Advil Cold and Sinus Caplets are small caplets that are easy to take with the aid of a small glass of water. Each caplet contains the active ingredient pseudoephedrine HCI, with a full 30 mg of this ingredient per tablet. There is also a 200 mg dose of ibuprofen for pain relief. The caplets help to eliminate sinus pressure and congestion, headaches, and minor body pains.
I have sampled many different over the counter drugs to treat sinus problems and Advil Cold and Sinus Caplets are among the ones I purchase with a good deal of frequency. I might catch one cold, maybe two, each year and I have a list of over the counter drugs I like to use for that purpose. Advil Cold and Sinus Caplets can be used for fighting colds, but I find this product is best for the treatment of sinus problems. The reason is the high dosage of pseudoephedrine. This ingredient helps to decongest quickly, eliminating the stuffy feeling and the sinus pressure. Other over the counter drugs use this same ingredient, but Advil Cold and Sinus Caplets is one of the few that offers such a high dose.
Next to its ability to relieve sinus pressure and congestion, Advil Cold and Sinus Caplets are also useful for headache and general pain relief. The ibuprofen in each caplet helps with this problem and while it isn't a huge dose, it is enough to eliminate most pain. Sinus sufferers usually don't have much pain to begin with, so a large dose of pain reliever generally isn't necessary.
Advil Cold and Sinus Caplets should be taken one at a time (or possibly two at a time, for extreme sinus problems) and the manufacturer claims that they are good for four to six hours of relief. I have found that they last about four hours at best before I have to reach for another. Depending on what I am doing, however, I may not want another caplet because they tend to make me feel a little sleepy. They don't cause excessive drowsiness, but they do make you feel quite relaxed- to the point that you may doze off during the day.
Advil Cold and Sinus Caplets are labeled as an effective treatment for colds, but they are actually a little bit limited in this capacity. The reason is because there is no antihistamine in Advil Cold and Sinus Caplets. Thus, you cannot count on this product to relieve sneezing and related cold/sinus symptoms. Another product taken along with Advil Cold and Sinus Caplets would be necessary for full cold relief.
Bottom Line Viewpoint:
Sinus problems are a real pain in the nostrils, but Advil Cold and Sinus Caplets help to eliminate sinus pressure and congestion in relatively short time. They are a little limited for cold relief, but they provide an effective means to treat sinus problems and while it would be nice if they were longer- lasting, they still rank among my favorite over the counter medicines for sinus treatment.
