People complain about Advantage Rent-A-Car, but I don't think they're as bad as some folks say. I've rented with them a few times, since they have quite a strong presence in South Texas, and the reason they got my business in the first place is because they are often very aggressive on pricing.

I'm not made of money, so I always opt for the less expensive cars when I'm looking for a rental.

What I've gotten from Advantage have been decent, late-model Chrysler cars. Some were not as new or as flashy as what I could have gotten elsewhere, but saving money is always its own reward. On one occasion I'd gotten a Dodge Neon that was just fine for my purposes: it was a bit basic and the rough cloth interior is a far cry from what I'm used to in my daily ride, but it got me where I was going, was easy on gas, and best of all, came with an absolute dirt-cheap daily rate. Another time, I'd goten a Dodge Intrepid, maybe a year or so old, with a good 20K on the odometer. It wasn't a brand new car, smelled like too many smokers had stunk it up before I got it, and it had a bizarre anti-theft lock that annoyed the bejeezus out of me, but I wasn't BUYING the car, just renting it for a few days....so what do I really care? I don't, and the cheap, cheap daily price kept me smiling no matter how many fumes wafted my way.

I never got a total beater from Advantage. Some of the cars were of Rent-A-Wreck caliber, but that's okay with me too...as long as the price reflects that, and at Advantage, I think it does. When I go to an Advantage lot, most of the cars are clean, decent cars.

I don't get airline miles with Advantage, I'm not a member of any elite preference service, and I'm not known at any Advantage office, yet they always treat me decent and give me a dependable car at a rock-bottom price. I have no complaints.

I'm with you on this one. Generally, when I'm renting I'm just looking for reliable transportation for the lowest price.

I rented from Avis, Hertz, Budget, and National in the last year or so.

I like rent a wreck...lol I went to one and they had a 75 Monte Carlo with Chrome wheels! But your right if they are not top notch then the price has to be fair! ;) BTW did you ever find the Bejeezus you lost??
