Great value!

I bought this laptop because I needed a basic laptop for getting on the internet along with some basic computer activities.  This laptop is great for that.  I can use the internet, do some basic budgeting, & watch dvd's.  For the price, this is a super-nice computer - I shopped with my IT guy from work & he loved this one.  Added bonus - its got a built in webcam.

reliable

this laptop has been very reliable. I have dropped it several times only to have it still work. I am currently looking at a acer net book for portability purposes and simply because acer has been so reliable and easy to navigate the keyboard.I find that the keyboard is comfortable and not to load like other i have used you can haer the taping of the fingers on the keys and with this laptop i can work silently while others sleep comfortably when I'm working. The features on the laptop are suprisingly fun.although the processor is outdated for the simplicity of minor networking has been enjoyable.I am not a gamer so I don't need serious graphics  card or a super fast processor  but im super pleased with its speed. I do not have anything bad to say about this laptop. The one time I did have to send it in (under manufactures warranty) because one of the keys popped off when i dropped it, It was serviced and returned in a vey timely matter, one week,an acer representative called me and asked if i was satified with the work.KEEP IT UP ACER!

Good computer for working!

The Acer Extensa 4620Z is the sort of machine designed for people that work more than play. Mine came with Windows XP, which is a plus no matter what Microsoft says about Vista. With XP, it is relatively fast, comes with a good amount of memory, and will run most of your applications (world, excel, power point, OpenOffice, statistical software, photo editors, etc) without any issues. Plays and writes CDs and DVDs, and has some really foolproof presentation settings (point-and-click presentation mode: it saves to the time to change your settings when you use a LCD projector and stuff). It also reads SD/XD cards, so you can copy your photos from the camera to the laptop without issues. Plenty of ports (4 USB, 1 firewire, LAN, VGA, SVGA), wireless G, IR, bluetooth, and and ol' fax modem (really useful when you travel abroad!). Battery is pretty decent (once again, you use point-and-click settings to choose 'maximum battery' vs. 'maximum' processing power. also love the backup software that came bundled with the system: it copies your files to another disk partition... so if something happens, you have backup! I have two issues with this laptop. The first is that it has two of the less powerful speakers ever. If you want to listen to music, or a movie, or anything in any place with a little bit of noise, you need headphones... otherwise the volume is just plain too low. The second, is that its cover (the top of it, the plastic thingy that covers the screen) scratches easily. So, you should get a neoprene cover for your laptop if you plan to carry it around. Also, you can run/install Ubuntu Linux on this machine. The only known issue (so far) is configuring your wireless card, but that has more to do with the card-drivers than Acer itself. LAN works perfectly. Finally, did I mention that this is a cheap machine?

Great if you only need the basics

This lAcer 4620Z laptop comes with Windows VIsta trial version. You have to buy Vista after the trial period. This makes the laptop much more expensive than many others on the market. Great starter laptop.

Acer Extensa 4620Z: Likes: nice look; keyboard is nice; screen graphic quality is very good; has exceptional connectability with 4 USB ports, Infra-red, Blu-tooth, Phone jack, Cat5 jack, memory card reader, CD/DVD RW drive, PC card slot, and built in high speed wireless. 2 gb memory is good so I don't have to worry about upgrading it. I set mine up out of the box with no problems. Dislikes: a bit underpowered CPU-wise for Vista but not so much as to really be a frustration - just seems a bit slow to boot. Seems hard for me to find an extra battery for this so far. No biggies. Summary: I use mine for connecting via my home fast-dsl wireless network to browse the web or connect to my workstation at work via vpn/remote desktop. It has been very good for that purpose. I had it in a case behind the driver's seat of my car when I had an accident (impact from front) that totalled my car but the pc still worked fine so it seems to be able to handle some impact. For the price it would be tough to beat this pc.th3f1y

Super lightweight, yet packed full of all you need in a computer

5

This laptop has all I need to keep up with my work schedule. I love how lightweight it is. I don't feel like I am carrying a suitcase to work with me when carrying it. The built in web-cam is great for conferencing and for seeing my grandchildren across the state and across three states grow. The one drawback is that Windows Vista definitely has some power issues and wants to take over in areas that I want control. I think I would have preferred sticking with XP and keeping control of my connections and some other areas.

Great for the price

I have only had this computer for a few months, and already it is starting to have some problems.  Sometimes it has trouble shutting down and sometimes the dvd drive doesn't work.  Otherwise, it is a great computer for the low price.
