Less than 6 months ago I bought this laptop to replace another laptop I had passed on to my daughter. Everything started out wonderfully. The first 4 months all parts worked as they should. I really enjoy the screen size, the built in web cam, dvd-drive, wireless internet capability. Once fully charged it even gave me 3 full hours of freedom from electrical outlets.
The first sign of technical difficulty was with the power cord. Sometimes it would charge when I plugged it in and other times it would stubbornly sit at the same level of available battery as before it was attached to the cord. After reading up on this at a few helpful forums I learned it is common to the Acer laptop. Something to do with Windows Vista, they say. The advice was to remove the battery from the laptop and then put it back in. Miracle of miracles it worked. My battery once again began to charge. A few weeks later the power cord completely quit working. I am now forced charge my Acer with the cord from another laptop.
In between the battery charging problems and the ultimate death of the cord, the dvd drive quit working. After only 6 months of use (very little use as I rarely add new programs, watch dvds, or listen to cds on the laptop) I am no longer able to access the drive at all. I put a disc in and, voila, nothing.
I am certain my warranty is still good, and probably I will be able to send the laptop away for repair, but it is a hassle. If I had read a few more reviews about the Acer Extensa before purchasing I probably wouldn`t have bought it. I have owned a few laptops in the past and never has anything quit working on them before the warranty ran out. From what I have experienced and all that I have read I would have to say Acer is selling a bad product.
