Acer AS4820TG packs power without priciness

By

from Downers Grove, IL

Comments about Acer Aspire TimelineX 14-Inch HD Display Laptop:

This laptop packs a bevvy of features without breaking the bank. It's light and has a small form factor. The battery life is excellent and it has a solid processor and graphics processor. It packs enough juice to do some light gaming, multimedia, browsing, and what not. The Intel i5 processor is speedy and allows for multi-tasking without much hiccup. The laptop has Dolby Audio which makes for pleasant listening when paired with a good pair of headphones. The screen is HD, but it's not 1080P. I guess at this size though, it doesn't matter too much. This would be a great laptop for traveling or school use. It has all the features and the speed to match.

Perfect for the common college Student

By

from Silver Spring, MD

Comments about Acer Aspire TimelineX 14-Inch HD Display Laptop:

Appearance?:

On top of the Laptop: Slick and Shiny Black Cover with ACER logo on the top. Smooth shiny surface is easily smudged by fingerprints, but easy to clean with any generic laptop cleaner or Lysol wipe.

On the bottom of the Laptop: Normal black mesh hard cover.

It's small and thin, easily fits into the common backpack or laptop case. Lighter than the usual laptops, it's preferable for the busybody.

Functionality?:

Runs all the programs smoothly. I'm a computer programmer, so having a processor decent enough to run many programs is important.

Want to have Word, Python, Music, and the Internet running all at once? Go ahead, it'll be able to do so, however I recommend not to do that with any computer.

Comes with Windows 7, simple, easy, and user friendly.

Visuals?:

Reflective glossy screen makes it hard to see in bright areas when you have the brightness on low. However, on high it is easy to see anywhere.

Video quality is respectable. At times it would be a little grainy, but still pretty good for everyday videos. If you're a gamer, it may be a bit of a hassle.

Audio?:

Play as well as the next computer.

Battery Life?:

The more programs you have the faster the battery drains, however that's obvious.

With just words running, it'll last hours, possibly 6 to 8. The charger is lengthy and small, so that won't be a problem.

Touchpad?:

Works well, but if you've had the laptop running for long periods of time, don't be concerned that the scroll portion of the touchpad stopped working, it's normal, and it'll come back after restarting.

As a college student, this meets all my basic needs and more. I highly recommend it.

Ease of Use
Pretty standard PC laptop.

Battery Life
Battery drains quickly when watching videos or playing games

Support & Service
Never had to use this function so my opinion on this is nonexistent

Speed/Performance
Takes a while to start up and over heats pretty quickly.
The audio has a slight static noise which is incredibly annoying.

Design
I like the design. It's sleek, light, portable and has everything you need.
Though the reflective screen is a bit bothersome in sun light

Durability
I've dropped my laptop a few times on the floor. (I was sleeping with my laptop and I might have kicked it off the bed). After multiple falls it's still intact and working properly.

Acer Aspire HD Display Laptop

By

from Roselle Park, NJ

Comments about Acer Aspire TimelineX 14-Inch HD Display Laptop:

For a long time I was looking for a solid laptop that met all of my needs. I wanted power (new i5 processors + discrete graphics) and portability (battery life + lightweight). The Acer 4820TG meets all of these needs. I've had the laptop for about 6 weeks and am very happy with it. The discrete ATI HD 5650 GPU can handle virtually any game you try, since this 14" laptop has a 1366x768 resolution. You can hook up an external monitor via the HDMI port or the VGA out to game on a larger screen, but framerates will drop for larger resolutions. I get around 6 hours of battery life on light use, meaning low brightness, Intel graphics, and mild browsing or office applications. The laptop is about 4.4 lbs with the battery. Cons would be the slow (5400 rpm) stock hard drive, lack of USB 3.0 or ExpressCard connectivity, and "low" resolution compared to many 15" laptops that offer 1080p. It would be nice to have blu-ray but that's not a dealbreaker by any means. Overall I can't think of another laptop that offers such solid components with an affordable price.

It's perfect!

Comments about Acer Aspire TimelineX 14-Inch HD Display Laptop:

This has got to be the best laptop I've ever owned. At first I was skeptical but it really does the job and no other laptop comes close at this reasonable price. The major points are really the battery and the build. The battery has a maximum life of 8 hours (which I never get to) but generally, you'll get a lot more than most laptops out there. So when I use mine consisting of photoshop, internet, casual gaming, and chat, I get around 3-4 hours. Compared to other laptops, if they have a max battery life of 3.5 hours, imagine how short it must be using all those different programs! This laptop is really something special. It's also quite thin so you can grab and go without feeling like you arm or back is about to break off. I haven't found any other laptops with these great specs. There's also 4 usb ports which I love. Most laptops out there have around 3 so an extra is always a welcome edition. I would totally recommend buying this!
