Great for programmers, but Acer Aspire sucks for regular users

By

from Turlock, CA

Comments about Acer Aspire One AOA110 Netbook PC:

I bought this acer aspire netbook back before it was trendy. Back before it came with windows. I love the size, the portability, and the general appearance, but I hate the operating system. I'm pretty smart and it took hours to look up all the linux codes I needed to change the desktop so that I could have shortcut icons like Windows. Also, you can't install ANYTHING without hours of frustration. Looking for rpm packages, trying to compile from source and even the Yum repository often crap out. If you're an experienced Linux user who doesn't mind the command line interface then I'd reccomend this if you want to save money. Otherwise, cave in and get the windows version. The battery also runs hot on this thing so you need to keep getting books or binders to put under it.

It's handy for travel.

By

from Steelville, MO

Comments about Acer Aspire One AOA110 Netbook PC:

I  have  been  using the Acer Aspire One almost everyday for  for several years,  It's very nice, for traveling  since it's so small and portable, although it smears easily and is very hard to keep clean. it also runs slowly a lot,  but I may have viruses or something.   The battery life is pretty good I guess,   it usually last several hours to a day anyway. Also the speakers are  kind of  poor, and my friend has one that the speakers blew on. the pad things  on the edges  of the screen came mostly unglued and slid around or fall out or get dirt in all around them. also my friends   left mouse button broke off, but he used it for games and stuff so it may have been just from that or something.  It's pretty nice just for a travel computer or something  especially for it's price, but it gets kind of rough with everyday use.  It's also does not have a built in disc drive, witch is pretty annoying. so yeah, I hope this helps.
