I bought this computer about 6 onths ago and I really love it. It was on sale when I bought it so the price was great as well. I use it for my pictures and things from church. It has alot of space and it great on travels. I wish it was a little bit lighter, but overall I am very happy with this product and would totally reccomend it to any of my friends. You will be impressed with this product, its great

Acer delivers quality at lower prices

When I went looking for a new laptop and priced out what I was looking for the Acer was the one that seemed to have almost everything I needed and/or wanted, but I admit I wasn't sure how good this brand name was. I asked some questions of the sales people in each shop I looked at and also did some research online before I realized that Acer buildt the laptops for Gateway. I was sold when I learned that since I have had several gateway computers and had no problems with them beyond simple user error. Since I purchased my laptop, which came with Vista Home Premium preinstalled on official release date, I have been impressed and very happy with my purchase. The last I heard Gateway had purchased Acer, which I was told was based out of Italy(don't know if that is/was true or not), so now if you buy anything Acer it's like your buying Gateway. I haven't checked to see if that is for certain true but I guess it doesn't matter to much to me either way since I am very happy with the products either way. I admit that I dream of owning a MacBook someday but the prices keep putting me off and it remains a dream but who knows, I may eventually get one. I am looking at possibly upgrading to the new Windows 7, just because I need to know how to tweek and run the new operating systems so I can continue to help family and friends with problems. I have some friends who have been using Windows 7 for months now and they have said that they really like it and that if you liked Vista you will love 7. Sometimes we got to just take the bull by the horns and drag it down to our level; its either keep up with the pack or get out of the way because there is no stopping the technology train from continuing on it's path.

Acer Aspire best laptop!

5

My husband and I bought this acer aspire 5100 before he deployed four years ago. Yes this laptop has been through a deployment in one the dustiest places I know! We paid full price for it but got a printer for free. Honestly this laptop has decent memory, quality and processing speed and I have never seen a laptop last this long with daily use! I use it everyday for e-mail, social sites and shopping, my three year old even uses it to play games. It has a built in web cam. My husband has a compaq laptop half the age of this acer and he has had that thing maintenced twice! I have never had to get this acer mainteneced. I do not believe I have ever given a five star review before. This laptop deserves it if I ever need to get another laptop it is definately going to be an acer!

I bought this notebook computer a couple years ago when there were some pretty good sales.  I wanted something that I could do some photo editing and storage on.  My husband and I were sharing a computer and both of our hobbies and jobs included a lot of time on the computer so it just was not working out.  The computer started out not too great.  The first day that I had it, we had problems.  It wasn't working right and we actually had to restore the computer from the get go.  It has an okay amount of space on it, I do not keep a ton of photographs on at one time (I also use an external hard drive and a photo hosting site), but it still fills up pretty quickly.  The biggest thing with the hard drive space is that it is split between two hard drives.  There is the main one, with all of your programs and operating system information, etc and then there is a "user" hard drive that has pictures, videos, documents, etc.  Also the problem with that is once you add stuff into those, they are stored on both hard drives (???).  The computer is slow, connections are always getting loose, drives are always shutting down on their own.  I have never had a single virus on my computer, but it has a mind of it's own anyways.  I have also come to find that I cannot edit photographs on this computer at all.  The coloring and screen brightness are really bad.  The pictures come out looking NOTHING like they did on the computer.

Acer Aspire 5100 is the best laptop out there!!!

I bought Acer Aspire 5100 for when I started college last year. It has a built in wi-fi card. Which is convient. I can take the laptop anywhere I want to go and can connect to internet anywhere as long as there is a wi-fi connection. It is great for doing school work on and playing around on the internet. It is not very good for playing games though. But I did buy it for school. It has done me wonderful for the purpose I have bought it and more. I am not in school anymore and I still use it for fun. I would recommend this computer to anyone who is looking for a reliable computer for school or for home. I've had it for over a year and it still runs like brand new. I have not had a single problem with it. I got it for a really good price. It came with a really good warranty. Three year warranty which covers everything from theft to dropping it. I play DVD's on it all the time. It plays the movies soo smooth. It's like watching it from a DVD player.

This Acer Aspire 5100 has had multiple problems with it.

Acers wear down extremely easily. Keys pop off easily and itruns extremely slow. IE7 runs as if I'm on dial up - but I'm not. I have DSL. No matter how much I clean it up, the system still operates slowly. Youtube videos (or any videos) and Windows Media Player skip constantly. Microsoft Office takes a few minutes to load whereas it used to load in seconds. My version of Windows Vista is not a valid one. It gives me constant errors throughout the day. The left click mouse button was easily jammed in to the slot, leaving it unusable. This Acer Aspire 5100 picks up all sorta of viruses on it as my AVG Free 8.5 virus protector runs scans for 5 to 6 hours each scan when I know they don't usually run that long. It finds tons of Locked Files and MOSCaches, whatever that means. The computer crashes on me often. It doesn't restart properly. When I try to restart, it goes through the process but the screen remains black as if it is off. I have to shut down the computer if I want to restart the thing. I would not recommend this laptop to others because of its many flaws. I have used better and more efficient laptops, and this is not one of them.

good laptop for all day usage

This ACER ASPIRE 5100 laptop is easy to handle, never breaks down. the Battery is a long lasting one? The screen has powerfull lightning with economy settings ..I have used it for 2 years and never have to contact any support service. The Wireless system works well. one little negative point, is , as wity many last generation laptops: there is no remaining port for "parallel printers".. so, if you ever wish to use it as a back up for your old deskstop using a parralell printer, just forget it. I give it a 15 out of 20 anyway... taht's all!

I may use the computer every day, but I don't know much about it.  It's a reliable computer...sometimes I have had issues, maybe they were my fault, but I have usually been able to start back at square one.  It's decent...maybe needs a web cam???

Acer Aspire 5100 is easy to use but has problems.

I have been using my Acer laptop for less than a year and already have had to send it in for warranty repairs as the motherboard and screen monitor quit, after almost 5weeks without my laptop, when I got it back the CDrom is no longer working and it was the only thing working when I sent it in for repair. Otherwise, I love it's lightweight construction, mobility and ease to use. I use my Acer daily for hours at a time as I do my schoolwork online, Girl Scout activities, Kids school work, work  and play games non stop through out the day, and never once has it over heated as many laptops do when on for hours non stop.  The screen resolution and size is easy on the eyes, it is compact and lightweight, so I often take it to doctors appointments, girl scout troop meetings, and many other places during a busy day. I like the design and the IE that came with it doesn't constantly freeze up, which was a constant problem I experienced with IE on desktop computers. I think Acer should try to produce a battery that lasts longer without being plugged in however, as the battery only lasts 2.5-3 hours without charging. They should also consider developing a laptop with a few more USB outlets, as I myself have trouble using touchpads, so I have to connect a mouse via USB, then my printer attaches via USB, Camera connects, via USB, etc... so as one can clearly see, 2 USB ports for all these devices I use daily, is difficult to juggle having to constantly plug in and unplug to use another device. However, eventhough Acer Laptops have their bugs, nothing in life is perfect, and with this in mind and having used others in the past I would definitely recommend an Acer over several other models out there. Plus, the price is affordable as is the extended warranties. The customer service personel take action quickly when they are called about an issue and they are very courteous and professional in handling customer issues.
