I have owned laptops made by Compaq, Toshiba, HP, and others. So far, the Acer Aspire that I've been using for the past year beats the others hands down. The Compaq was the last laptop I'd used prior to Acer, and even tho it had powerful system specs, it was very slow. The Acer loads programs as they should be loaded only taking a few seconds for things to happen. It also runs programs that require computing power such as ConvertXtoDVD which converts video files to DVD video with quickness and ease. The laptop comes with the programs you'd need to get started including programs that play and record DVD's and CD's, plus programs for virus and spyware protection, games, and other things. The laptop has recovery discs built into it like most new laptops. Windows Vista requires a bit of a learning curve but the operating system works well on this Acer Aspire machine. If you are still using another operating system, it would be wise to upgrade to this laptop and enjoy Vista this way than installing it on an older machine where performance would be hindered.

My opinion on the *Acer* *TravelMate 5720* is that the fingerprint reader is slightly touchy. If you accidentally bump it while you are using the mousepad our typing it moves your cursor up to the top left corner and the finger print pops up. Then you have to wait for it to go away before you can resume what you were previously doing. All in all the *Acer TravelMate 5720* is a great laptop to use, but it is a little heavy. Other than that it isn't too bad. I wish it had a webcam, but it is an older laptop so thats understandable. I am not sure what the microphone is for, but it is there! The buttons on the far left side of the computer are what I rarely use. Sometimes I accidentally push them and something pops up but it all looks to0 confusing, and technical for me to figure out! Those would have to be something you would need to read the users manual for. I would suggest this laptop to a friend/ family member to purchase.

I bought this Acer Laptop computer last year it was a good choice for the money it is a 2GB DDR2 has a 250GB HDD and all the standard computer things.  The battery has failed so it is now a plug-in computer the webcam has never been used.  This Acer is ok for a first computer it dose everything I need as long as I don't use the o very often as it dosen't work every time.  I would still look at an Acer when I replace this in a few years.
