Good computer

5

I have been using the Acer 5610 computer for over two years and have had no problems at all. It has a comfortable keyboard and the screen is glare resistant. The battery life is sufficient and the hard drive is ample for home use. I wanted to purchase an extra power cord and I had no problem finding one online, so spare parts don't seem to be an issue.

I love my laptop

4

Overall I love this laptop.  I have a SONY Vaio but I like this Aspire better because it is lighter in weight and has a built in camera.  The software I use on it is fast and effecient and connecting to the internet via my wireless network is fast and easy.  The only problem I have is with the display screen.  The resolution is 1024 by 768 which is recommended but for some reason my pictures are stretched and look a bit distorted.  If I change the resolution then I don't get a full screen.   I'm not sure why, but some banners do not show up, like the "REDEEM" banner on the My Points website.  I still run Windows XP as opposed to VISTA because I knos XP so much better.  This was one of the last laptops I found that still had XP.   It is so lightweight I can use it while Im in bed just on my lap.

Acer is a brand that can be swiftly be labeled 'outdated'.

As an everyday user computer, the Acer has been easy to set up and use straight out of the box. I have no complaints there, and I've even been able to install Windows 7 (my personal copy - Vista was all that Acer provided with my laptop) on it, and have it actually improve my computers everyday function. While this computer works excellent for everyday functions like checking email and daily word processing activities, it is not ideal of all functions that users require from their laptops today. When I first bought this laptop a few years ago, it worked fine for what I needed it for. I had only a small amount of funds to spend on a new laptop, and since I was a graduate student I needed a computer that could basically perform the generic activities of light internet surfing, word processing, and basic email. This computer met up to those simple standards. It even allowed me to take part in casual gaming, which  helped me muddle through my studies at a faster pace. One thing that people tend to not think about when looking for a basic computing system is the fact that they may be stuck with it for a much longer time than planned. That is my case, as I am now stuck with a computer that can handle basic functions, but cannot seem to swing upward to more detailed measures. I am an EVERYDAY gamer, and to say so is not saying that I am all together displeased with this laptop. The Acer 5610-2762 can hold it's own when it comes to games. This is more than I can say for other similarly priced laptops. I can play casual games on pogo.com and gamesville.com with no problems, and even yahoo games can be played with no problems. I can even play some older games without a problem, however, the graphics card on this computer just cannot be upgraded, so I cannot play most current day games. The inclusion of an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 has only lead me in wanting. I am contatntly desiring to upgrade the graphics card in this laptop, but I am brought to a standstill, as it just cannot be done. Because of the way it is set up, a new graphics card simply cannot be added. This is both frustrating for me as a gamer, and unsettling to me as an electronics consumer. I find it terribly unsettling that my computer knowledge is now put to a hault thanks to this infernal machine. While I can still surf basic websites and play simple games on it, I long to play more challenging and graphics intense games; this laptop simply will not allow that. I am tired of trying to find ways to tweak this machine to get it to meet up to my standards, only to discover that it can't be done and it only makes me feel as if I have failed yet again. While this computer worked out fine when I first bought it years ago, it is practically useless to me now. This was also the case about a year after I'd purchased it. I'm definitely turned off by Acer as a brand and an electronics source since their products can become outdated so easily, and many can't even be upgraded within a year or so. If you are looking for a good, dependable laptop that can be upgraded in the years to come, just be very wary when considering Acer as your laptop of choice. If you do decide to invest in this company, make sure the laptop you are buying will be upgradable in the future before you invest in it. That was my eventual plans for my laptop, but instead I am stuck with this outdated piece of machinery until I can afford a brand new system. I'm only issuing a warning, just be careful to make sure you know what you are purchasing before sending in your payment. I want to make sure that all of your readers are aware of the fact that I am not talking down Acer as a company, but when producing this model of laptop and introducting it to the Acer Aspire line, I am concernet for the company and the people involved who made the final decision to produce a laptop that simply could not be updated in almost any way. I have done all that I can for this laptop in the form of updating drivers and software, but there is not really much that can be done with the hardware involved. Just make sure you double check, before you make a purchase, and identify if your computer will be upgradable at a later date. Computer technology moves fast in today's world, and there is really only so much that can be done to help us keep up with it as consumers. While I am glad some newer programs and software devices do work on this laptop, even if it's working poorly, I am distraught by the fact that nothing more can be done to bring my computer up to speed. I am competing in a world that is moving much swifter than I am, thanks to Acer and this wonderful laptop. Back to the point I was trying to make, this laptop can definitely handle basics. If you plan to use it perform everyday word processing, checking basic email, and playing casual games, then this laptop may be something you should look into. I couldn't recommend it for much of anything else, but it can definitely take care of the basics at an affordable price.

It won't serve another year

I bought Acer Aspire 5610Z laptop 2 years ago. It has been working ok. It has bluetooth that I never used and SD card reader. But here are the problems that it has: POWER: Recently it has started loosing power charge. It won't hold it. It overheats to the point things melt off of it. The upper panel falls off because of it too. Power cord was melted as well. And when it's being charged it makes a terrible high pitch noise. SOFTWARE: I never had problems with software. It works fast if not overloaded with files. WEBCAM: Webcam broke motnhs ago. All it shows is a black screen. It could have happened because of the overheating problem. KEYBOARD: Keyboard has been working fine. But it's hard to clean. MODEM: Never had a problem with a modem. MONITOR: Sreen does not have a protective layer, so you will have something stuck to it at all times(dust, fingerprints). It is very sensitive too. If you touch it too hard it may leave a mark. CD/DVD: CD ROM broke a couple of weeks ago. It does not recognize cds or dvds anymore. USB PORTS: USB ports don't recognize usb flash drives sometimes.  It have been taking a good care of it. Don't get me wrong. It's not that I dropped it or spilled something on it. It never happened. But I think things don't last forever especially with this latptop. If you need a laptop that will serve for more than 5 years, buy Dell.

Laptop Acer Aspire is good computer, didn't hold up very well...

3

I have had my Acer Aspire 5610z for about 2 1/2 years, I believe, or at least close to that period of time. I have used it in college and now just in the home office. Though it has been through two moves, well protected in those moves, I should add...the appearance of it looks as if someone has dropped it on the floor repeatedly (which I haven't). The back of the computer where it folds close has literally come apart and you can see the inside of the computer. The cd rom compartment doesn't work anymore and only opens occasionally. My sister bought me this computer while I was in college and it works okay now but with these problems, I just don't know how long it will last. I was rather upset to see that the Windows Vista program was only a trial version not a full, premanent version on the laptop. That was rather disappointing! I am thankful that it does still work now and I can do what I need to do on it; surf the net, do school work, and whatever else. I'm just not happy that it hasn't held up for very long, physically. Kind of a downer!

Decent features, but being cheap, the build quality lacks.

4

The Acer 5610Z is a decent laptop, especially for the price. The build quality could use some improvement (the plastic is very cheap looking and feeling). The built-in card reader for common media cards has come in handy more than a few times, and I often use it when I don't wnat to dig for a flash drive (just pull the n card ofut of the camera quick, and transfer the files). The LCD is lacking in color when compaired to a nice desktop LCD, but that is to be expected. The shini-ness of the screen can be annoying when outside, and it shows finger prints very easily. The hard drive space is nothing to get excited about, my base 80GB was quickly full. I like how the processor was quick in the beginning, but it is now showing its age, and 1GB of RAM just isn't going to cut it for most Vista users. It would make a nice, cheap work laptop for someone that knows how to take care of it (the cheap plastic shows scratches very easily), but the underlying quality is solid. Mine has been dropped a few times and still works fine (it has even shut off after the trauma), even outside the warranty it is still running strong. The only problem is heat management, it gets too hot for my liking when running full spec, I am constantly lowering the CPU power to keep things cool, and the fan isn't 100% linked to the CPU temp. An aftermarket clip-in blower fan will resolve this problem, but a laptop addon definitely does not help portability. Overall a good laptop with some expected draw-backs based on its price. Would recommend to the right person.

The Aspire 5610 overheats frequently

1

Working with the Aspire 5610 has been a very frustrating experience. This is my second poor experience with the Acer brand. I bought an Acer computer back in the mid-90's and switched to Dell laptop which was kind of OK for the time (Dell can have its rotten ones too) I then switched back to an Acer labtop this time to give it another go some ten years later. The product is still poorly engineered and performs below expectations. I would not recommend Acer to anybody and that is my final answer.

Great laptop

4

My husband bought me a Acer laptop, never owning one, I didn't know what to expect.  I love my laptop, I enjoy the freedom of not being stuck to a desk all day long.  The only down fall I have found with this laptop is that the battery doesn't last long.  But that's why it's nice to have the cord to plug it in when it dies.  It's been a great laptop for a great price.

I am looking for a cheap laptop (friends 2)

3

Hello to all, I am new here and trying to figure out how to work this thing out. I am just trying to find new friends and some information on cheap **laptops** that I can purchace. I don't have a **laptop** at the moment but I have used them in the past, just would like one now so that if I go any where, I can just pack it up and go. Man I hate having to write about things espeacilly when they have to be at least 900 words. I guess that all I can say is that** laptops** are much easier to carry around with you then a big computer. you can plug it in almost anyplace that has a plug outlit. Na not only that, if you need to remeber something, instead of writing it on paper or something, all you need to is take your **laptop ** out of it's bag, find a plug, pug it in and do the other things you have to do, and then type anythig that you need to save and that's it. I would rather have a **laptop** then a big computer, but I like to be on the computer alot and if I am not at a place where there is internet, I can just pull my computer out and set it up and do what I have to do with it. It is so much easier to carry around. Very light weight and very handy. I really like** laptops** alot and always will like them. Ok, I think that is enough.
