A couple of years ago my husband suggested that I get a laptop for when we go away on weekend camping trips and vacation.  I guess he was hinting that he knew I was miserable when I couldn't check email for a couple of days in a row, let alone a whole week out of town.  I took him up on the offer since I have already been mulling the thought over in my head and we planned a trip to Best Buy.  Once there, we browsed over all the display models and talked to a salesman on duty.  I thought I wanted a Toshiba satellite, but the salesman talked me into an Acer Aspire 5610 Laptop.  I couldn't argue after he told me Acer had been around in Europe for several years, especially when I found out that the price was a couple hundred dollars less than the Toshiba.

Acer Aspire 5610

The Acer Aspire 5610 Laptop is a pretty basic laptop with 1GB of RAM, 160 GB of hard disk space, multi-format DVD player, 4 USP ports (two on the side and two on the back), 15.4 inch LED screen, 1.6 Ghz Intel Core Duo duel core processor and 5-in-1 memory card reader.  It also comes with Windows Vista pre-loaded so that you are ready to fire up the computer and get started using it immediately when you get it home.

The computer itself weighs almost 10 lbs. and when packed up in a computer bag, feels like 20 lbs. when you have been toting it around for awhile.  The dimensions of the computer are 10.6" x 14.1" x 1.2".

My Thoughts on the Acer Aspire 5610 Laptop

Since I'm not a computer geek, I'm just going to tell you the basics on this laptop and how it has held up in the years that I have had it.

The design of the Acer Aspire 5610 is attractive.  it comes in a silver case with black accents inside, the keyboard and trim is all done in black.

I have had very little problems with this computer.  The biggest one was the computer starting to overheat due to me using it too many hours straight (like all day long and then forget to shut it down).  The computer was starting to shut down on me.  I decided to purchase a cooling pad (http://www.viewpoints.com/Antec-NoteBook-Cooler-761345-75004-2-review-86b10) and my computer has been running much smoother now.

The Acer Aspire 5610 Laptop also comes with Norton anti-virus software and a few more programs.  You will also get a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, AC adapter, and operating instructions in the box your computer comes in.  The Acer Aspire 5610 Laptop is backed by a one-year limited warranty.

This computer was easy to set up and has wireless compatibility.  My husband had mine ready to go in about 10 minutes out of the box.  It turned out that he took over my new computer playing with it so much the first week that I ended up making a comment about "his" new computer.  We ended up buying a second Acer Aspire 5610 Laptop so we wouldn't fight over just one.

This has been a good model laptop and has been running strong for a little over 2 years now.  I use it constantly and haven't even fired up my desktop computer in the last year.  It's also great for traveling.

Priced at around $699.00, the Acer Aspire 5610 Laptop is well worth the investment.  I highly recommend it!

Ready to go in 10 minutes--sounds great! I still mainly use a PC, but I have a laptop in the computer. We rarely go on vacation, and the kids tend to want to play with stuff--I literally had to tape a tiny cup over the re-set button because I'd invariably be writing and then ZAP! This review is very helpful.
