I consider myself an above-average cook, but I. DO. NOT. BAKE. I don't do cookies, cakes, breads, etc. Still, I've found myself hooked on watching The Food Network lately, and I've recently discovered Ace of Cakes.
The "Ace of Cakes" is Duff Goldman and he owns Charm City Cakes in Baltimore, MD. The show follows Duff and his many employees (bakers, cake artists, etc) as they work each week to create whatever wacky cakes (bulldog, Florence waterfront, pizza, Star Wars helmet, a heart complete with arteries and veins, etc) that customers have ordered that week. Not only is it interesting to watch the employees research, plan, and create the cake, but they are a diverse group of people who are really entertaining and often funny to watch. I love their dry sense of humor as I have on myself.
I couldn't make homemade chocolate chip cookies if I spent the day attempting such a feat, but I do really enjoy watching Duff's cast of characters (and Duff himself) work to complete each week's worth of cake orders. I can really appreciate and respect their pieces despite the fact that I have not a single drop of artistic or baking talent in my body. I have started to make a point of watching Food Network's Ace of Cakes if I'm up and not watching one of my usual evening shows. Recommended!
