I never had horrible acne, but it was enough to make me feel self-conscious. I tended to get large, red bumps on my forehead, chin, and along my hairline. Accutane, which has many generic forms, is a strong Vitamin A derivitive use to treat moderate to severe acne. It was the only thing that saved my skin, and truly changed my life!

I used Accutane. It is a somewhat scary drug, had to get blood drawn every month or every few weeks which I hated doing. My face got so dry  in parts it was flaking and  it looked disgusting, which was more embarrassing than the mild acne I had. I didn't realy need to take this medication, but my dermatologist wanted to get rid of my acne for good. It did seem to do that. After trying every OTC acne product and every oral acne medication, I finally gave in and went on Accutane for 6 months.  I was suffering from Adult Nodular Cystic Acne that was getting progressively worse.  I suffered through the drying side effects and the 20 pound weight gain but it was all worth it.  My skin is clear and smooth and I have not had a single blemish in 6 months.  This drug was truly a miracle drug for me.
