OK. Guilty...
I should have listened to the little voice my mom taught me about, "if it's too good to be true, it probably is". This is one of those times though, that I don't feel alone and completely scammed because I didn't listen. After my first attempt at the Acai Berry Cleanse, and Acai Berry Noni, I was done. At least I thought so, until I got another bottle in the mail. I had canceled my automatic shipment within the 14 days. I even got a confirmation of the cancellation. BUT...they went ahead and shipped another bottle while charging my card $79.95 TWICE!! I actually got someone on the phone and gave them my "account number/shipment number". They were nice, although, they did tell me that my cancellation was not within the 14 days, even though I counted on the calendar, it was in fact, less than 10 days. Here's the catch, they start counting days from the time you order the product, not from when you actually get it!! I stood my ground, repeated the cancellation number, asked to speak with the supervisor, and was refunded both transactions. I was not rude, or disorderly, just firm. I told them that they had misleading information, and that it was unfair to expect a person to cancel a 14-day trial when they weren't even using the product during the company's version of 14 days. The real kicker came about a week later. Another bottle!! This time I asked for a supervisor right off, and asked yet again, why would they send a bottle when I had just gotten a refund, twice? I obviously canceled if I was issued two separate refunds. I told them to cancel the "subscription" yet again, and if I were charged, or saw any further charges, they would be reported to my bank's fraud department. They were very apologetic, and confused that I got another bottle, but the strange part was that they would not accept a return. They told me to keep the bottle I had already gotten, but the refund would still stand. And so far, it has.
The most interesting part in this whole fiasco was that my bank was aware of thousands of clients that had the same experience with a dozen or more different companies. The fraud department is actually working on sending out a consumer alert due to all the complaints logged.
Furthermore, as I logged on yesterday, I saw a news reel from ABCNews.com. My exact story was on there, but it was a woman from NYC. Only she wasn't so lucky. The company she purchased with, did not have a working number or website. She never saw her nearly $300 returned, and had to cancel her bank card just to get the charges to stop.
As for those websites, there are over 80 of them out there according to ABC News, and they are all fakes. Any of you myspacers out there see the blond woman who writes a blog? Yeah, it's a random German model who sells her photo on a universal modeling website. She was photo-shopped to look thinner. And the blog....all BS!!
I'll admit that the Acai product does work, but not well enough to spend $80 every month! Basically, it's an appetite suppressant and mood stabilizer along with an energy booster. I felt all that, but didn't lose a pound. So, although I felt better, it wasn't really anything other than emotionally.
So if you want to try it, stick to the brick and mortar companies that have an actual return policy and personal contact, like GNC. Not only does it offer more security, but it's also TONS cheaper!!!
