AVG Antivirus Freeoffers one of the most popular free security solution available to home users.  AVG Free has proven to be one of the most dependable free anti-virus software downloads available to home users by providing a high level of virus detection capability.

AVG Corporate Overview

Since 1991, AVG, formerly Grisoft, has been providing personal computer protection. This company has offices in Europe, the US and the UK, and employs some of the world's leading experts in software development, threat detection and prevention and risk analysis.  The company invests heavily in research and development and partner with leading universities to maintain the technological edge learning about and detecting viruses to both home and personal computers.

AVG Anti-virus Free Features

This antivirus software is only available to home users.  Purchases may be made of additional AVG products by businesses and corporations as well as home users may purchase a full package which offers protection beyond anti-virus.

  • automatic updates
  • real-time protection detecting and isolating viruses as files are opened and programs are run
  • a "virus vault" which holds the virus and keeps it from entering your computer until you can decide what to do with it.
  • easy to use and is does not slow down the other functions on your computer

AVG Antivirus Free Awards and Acknowledgments

Here's what Maximum PC has to say about AVG security products-"It has all the essentials, including a resident memory scanner, an e-mail scanner, and scheduled hard disc scans. But what really amazes us is the frequency of the virus definitions and application updates available from (AVG) GRISOFT."

PC Pro's Software of the Year Award in 2007.

PC Authority's Highly Commended Award Best Software Award.

In February 2008 they were awarded the VB100% Award by Virus Bulletin.

Other AVG Free Services

AVG also offers two other security products that you can download for at no cost, AVG Anti-Spyware Free and AVG Anti-Root kit Free.

AVG For Purchase

You may also purchase the Internet Security software for a cost of $54.99 for a one year subscription, this software is anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti root kit, protects against phishing, firewalls, email and chat protection as well as web shields against fraudulent or malicious websites.

AVG Technical Support

If you are need technical support or assistance once you download any free AVG software, free web site support is available with free help resources, including on-line documentation, FAQ, and Forum.

My Viewpoint:  AVG Free is the most popular, award winning free security program for personal home computers users.  It has over 70 million active users, and you can feel secure with this free anti-virus software that your computer is protected daily.  The software is instant, you simply log onto the site, create your account and download.  The ability to download the other two free products provides an almost complete package (I like to have parental controls and anti phishing software) for computer protection.  As far as anti virus software, AVG is not only free, but it is an excellent choice for anti-virus protection.  It is effective, efficient and immediate.

Thanks, Lisa...I lost my ad-aware somehow and can't get it back. My daughter did also so I'll give this one a try. I have one I pay for but it's good to have lots (I think). Jo

I have the free version and like it better than Norton. It works well, doesn't slow my computer, and so far I have been worm and virus free.

I'll have to keep this in mind. I got a nasty virus/spyware bug about a month ago. $200 later I got the computer up and running again!
