I was too cheap to get virus protection for my computer so I was thankful to read about AVG Free Edition on email lists. This free anti-virus protection is at http://free.grisoft.com/ and is easy to download. It constantly updates and lets you know if something needs to be done. It is represented by a box on the desktop, and the icon is normally different colors. It turns dark when it needs your attention. AVG just recently alerted me to a virus when I visited a website. Since I've had it, I've probably been notified of five viruses. It will also scan email. Sometimes, you will get emails that read it has been scanned by AVG. It doesn't slow down the computer, and it will not try to get you to buy anything. There is a paid version, but I'm satisfied with this one, and it recommended by the computer expert in my local newspaper.
