AT&T Review Summary

AT&T, Ma Bell, has been in the cellular phone business for about a decade, first under its own moniker and now with the merged Cingular Wireless. AT&T Wireless service, like Verizon Wireless, blankets the nation and overall our community of reviewers likes the service, but some expressed mixed feelings about the carrier mostly centered on bad customer service. Although there were a few admonishments about service, the majority of our reviewers had high praise for the carrier; one reviewer stated “AT&T is (an) overall good service that works well.” AT&T Wireless offers a large selection of mobile phones including Windows and Palm-based smart phones and BlackBerry’s. AT&T also offers a robust wide-band high-speed wireless network. Read what our community has to say about AT&T Wireless as well as Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel Wireless Services.

I have been a customer to several different cell phone coverage providers over the years, and the most recent one that I have been using is Cingular, who turned to AT&T shortly after we signed the contract.  The plan was simple enough; giving us 800 anytime minutes, free nights and weekends, rollover...

Folks please beware if you are an ATT customer-formerly Cingular.
I sure wish cingular would not have sold me out to ATT.
If you read this and have a recommendation for a good phone company please tell me
your point of view !
Yesterday I received a "courtesy call" from ATT telling me both of my phones were...

thought I needed a cell phone, thought phone should work at my house, very nice until totally ticked, super long time AT&T customer (not now)

Several years back I thought I would join the real world and get a cell phone. It made sense to get cell phone service from my usual company - AT&T. My parents went with AT&T for long distance. Phone services deregulated by the time I decided, but I went with AT&T. Felt pretty solid. There were other companies out there, but I felt comfortable with AT&T.

I went to the mall in town and got my cell phone and AT&T service all set up. I went home, and the phone would not "set up." I called the mall. They said to try it from where I work. This should have been a clue, but I did not get as not having...

I shopped around quite a bit before choosing Cingular Wireless last year. I like to get a good price, but I also value quality and great customer service. I talked to people, talked to multiple salespeople for each company and finally decided on Cingular.

We chose our phones, paid for them, and were offered a $50.00 rebate on each phone. They were out of rebate forms, so I returned for them a few days later (as they suggested). Apparently, they gave me the wrong forms as the expiration date was later found to be incorrect. I sent it in at the last minute, only to be denied a rebate due to the...

AT&T customer service is the worst service I have ever had to deal with.  Their phone system and network of customer service representatives is convoluted and designed to funnel you into a frustrated state that ends with you giving up on your issue due to hours and hours waisted on the phone.
More specifically, when we moved to our new home, we signed with ATT after they said our zip code had cell service.  Once we moved in, we found out there was zero service for many blocks.  We were in a cell dead zone.  After 7 months and almost $100 per month, we are tired of not having service. ...

A Two-Minute Play, set at HQ of a large cellphone service provider.........

Ann:  What should we do to people who sign a one- or two-year contract?

Damien:  Ah, sell 'em a crappy phone at a big discount.  That way, they'll get so frustrated, they'll buy a replacement for hundreds of dollars!

Blackbeard:  Great idea - that'll create exorbitant profits and bonuses for us!

Lucifer:  And let's save a little more by eliminating almost all the seating from the retail stores.  Make customers who are waiting for help just wander around on concrete floors with cheap carpeting, and look at expensive...

We have been customers of AT&T Wireless/Cingular/AT&T mobility or whatever name they go by for about 10 years and I've never had a complaint about the customer service or plan qualities.  I've had the typical "why can everyone else talk on their phones in WalMart, and I cannot get reception in here" complaints, but that was due to the low quality of my brand of cell phone, not the company feeding me the service.

I've switched to a high quality Motorola phone (Slvr) that DOES get reception in WalMart!  Each time I've contacted AT&T customer service over the phone or internet, they have been friendly...

At&t lied to my hubby and I. They talked us into upgrading to a new phone. We askde up front if we can get out of the contract if we moved overseas (hubby is military) they said yeah it would not be a problem. Well now they are telling me we have to pay a fee to break the contract. I would never have upgraded my phone and just kept the old one. Not only that but this new "better" phone drops calls all the time. I wish cingular was back. At&t has just brought bad news to cingular.

I switched to SPRINT when I decided that I would eventually get an iPhone (Once they have a 3G iphone that suppports flash). I was happy to find a good voice/data plan that seemed fairly priced for unlimited data access and what seemed like more than enough voice minutes. The good news was that they would send me a Samsung Blackjack smart phone for free with the two year contract. Keep in mind that you pretty much have to get a 2 year contract to get a great deal on any type of phone. If you are looking for a month to month type arrangment, then go for something like the "Trac Fone" pre paid model.... read full review »

The coverage is great, and there aren't a real problem with dropped calls, but the new customers signing up get all the consideration and perks and existing customers get nothing for being good or long term customers.  That is particularly frustrating.  And the way they are pushing the online bill paying options is almost to threaten you if you don't choose to pay that way (concerns about security of your accounts and personal information still keep me from doing alot of bill paying online or allowing others to access my bank accounts)....I don't see that I should be penalized for a payment that... read full review »

I made the mistake of leaving TMobile to join Cingular b/c of the family network.  I also made the mistake of not checking consumer reports prior to signing up.  If you look up consumer reports, you will see Cingular/ATT is rated one of the worst providers.  My experience has been less than mediocre.  Salesperson at the store I have come to find out was spitting out one lie after another.  Got the highest plan b/c told if it was too much, we would rack up rollover minutes and have them for the future (apparently you lose all your rollover minutes when you downsize your plan to only the amount... read full review »

I recently switched from T-Mobile to my family's AT&T plan.
I think I might cry.
Though the rollover minutes are a beautiful thing, my family still hasn't used any because we are always too conscious of how many minutes we have left and how many we should "leave so we get more rollover." Each month, between expiring rollover minutes and the minutes we add on, our family gets a net gain of 50 or less rollover minutes. Though these minutes are great to have, we rarely use them. Right now they are just a precaution for that one month when we will accidentally leave a phone on the line with AT&T...

We signed up with AT & T years ago.  I was a little nervous, because my only prior experience with cell phone service had been Bellsouth and that sucked more than I have room to go into, here.  My step-father had signed on with Verizon and, at the time, they had the best nationwide coverage.  As both he and my mom travel extensively with their businesses, they needed reliable coverage.  So, to avoid my mom having to pay for breaking her contract, I took it over.  This was more than five years ago.  Since then, we've had our ups and down.  We've had horendous billing problems (to give you... read full review »

I signed up for Cingular, which I loved.  The service was excellent, I dropped exactly one call in a year, and never had a problem accessing any of my services.  Since AT&T took over, I've hated every minute.

The dropped calls are the worst.  With Cingular, I could drive the 30 minutes from my old job to my house and never hit a dead spot.  I never had a problem logging on to the internet, and Yahoo logged me in every time.  With AT&T, I drop calls on an average of 3 times a week, and can't even get from my new job 3 miles away to home without dropping a call.  I pay an additional $15 per...

I have had Cingular (now at&t) for over 5 years. I have heard many people complain very loudly about being charged for various reasons. I am able to, well not quite sympathize with Cingular, I understand why it works the way it does. I used to work in the DSL business, and there are many parallels. The "Early Termination" fees and the time intervals before getting a discounted phones are due to the fact that phones aren't cheap. Even when you pay "full" price for a phone, thats not what the phone cost to be made. When you sign up for any service, any service, your entering into a contract and you... read full review »
