AT&T —
I recently switched from T-Mobile to my family's AT&T plan. I think I might cry. Though the rollover minutes are a beautiful thing, my family still hasn't used any because we are always too conscious of how many minutes we have left and how many we should "leave so we get more rollover." Each month, between expiring rollover minutes and the minutes we add on, our family gets a net gain of 50 or less rollover minutes. Though these minutes are great to have, we rarely use them. Right now they are just a precaution for that one month when we will accidentally leave a phone on the line with AT&T customer service and it will undoubtedly stay on hold for about 3 days straight. So sure, the rollover is great but even that isn't good enough to outweigh the plan's tribulations. Since I have started with AT&T, about 1 out of every 5 calls I dial has failed. Even in coverage areas that give me 5 bars, I click send and my phone apologetically vibrates and tells me that the call could not be made. Only on the 3rd or 4th try does the call finally go out on these occasions. Also, I've had my share of troubles with the data transfer/messaging part of my plan. First of all, I have to stick with a measly 200 texts (sending & receiving) per month because the unlimited plan is about $20 per user (whereas some other plans offer unlimited for the entire family for about $15). Furthermore, my texts often fail to send because that user was for some reason "Unsupported" (and I am still charged for these texts!).
Sure, some of my problems may seem overblown and trivial, but they really are annoying and bothersome. And when you have to deal with "annoying and bothersome" for 2 years of a binding contract, it becomes unacceptable.
If you join the AT&T plan, you will live, but you will probably regret it.
