AT&T —

I switched to SPRINT when I decided that I would eventually get an iPhone (Once they have a 3G iphone that suppports flash). I was happy to find a good voice/data plan that seemed fairly priced for unlimited data access and what seemed like more than enough voice minutes. The good news was that they would send me a Samsung Blackjack smart phone for free with the two year contract. Keep in mind that you pretty much have to get a 2 year contract to get a great deal on any type of phone. If you are looking for a month to month type arrangment, then go for something like the "Trac Fone" pre paid model.

My experience with Sprint so far has been quite positive. They seem to have the best coverage of any of the cellular providers. I've always got signal "bars", no matter where I happen to be. This is very handy. I even get service in parking decks and elevators.

The Blackjack phone that came with the plan has been a very fun intro to the world of the "Smart Phone". While it is hardly an iPhone, it does have many cool features like Internet access, the ability to run windows mobile applications, etc. The phone itself runs Microsoft Windows Mobile which is a mobile variant of the standard windows operating system. If you are used to windows, windows mobile is not much of a stretch in terms of usability.

Also, the web based control of my account is very handy. I can login to my account in any web browser and change anything I like and keep tabs on minutes, features, etc. They have a great web interface which I prefer to contacting the service unit by phone. You can still call them for help of course, but as with most carriers, there is always some lag waiting to talk to a human. It's been far easier just to log in to my account on the web and change what I want.   In addition, cingular to cingular calls are free, and rollover minutes are a nice bonus.

So I'd say that if you are looking for a plan with great coverage, a free smart phone, and good customer care, go with AT&T,

Todd
