I used AT&T for years for my home phone until I got one of their cell phones which didn't work at my house. The service rep was rude and said the phone was in the service area. OK honey. You come try it. It didn't get a signal at my house - period. Took me 6 months to get my money back. I switched to Time Warner for my landline phone over that.
Now . . .
The nice sign up deal at Time Warner ran out, and I'm paying $177/month for phone, TV, and internet. That's almost double the initial year or two contract. And, I hardly ever use the phone and rarely watch TV.
I could just use my cell phone, but there are a couple of reasons I still want a landline:
1. I like 911 trace - just in case.
2. When my battery goes down on my cell phone (which happens a lot as I don't remember to plug it in), then I still want a phone of some type.
So, I wanted a bare bones landline phone service. After research, the options were some net based phone companies (with poor reviews) and AT&T.
I called, and I must say the young man who helped out could not have been nicer. Maybe they got rid of the witch I spoke with about the cell phone. Hope so.
The nice guy ran the REAL total. It's a $21 service, but with fees and such plus the $4 to get 5 cent per minute long distance (which I might need), the bill would be a little over $30. That's about half what I pay now on landline.
AT&T has always worked fine here at the house and other places I lived. I used AT&T landline for over 25 years all total, and my Mom still has AT&T dating back to the early 1960s.
The only thing that worries me is that they called with one of those auto surveys. It was a survey about why I quit with AT&T service. Well, maybe they had a 3 year delay on that, but I doubt it. So, I sign up with them, and they call a survey over to see why I quit them. I kept pressing the "other" button to answer, because the questions did not apply at all. Isn't that just dumb that they called a new (old) customer with a survey about why they cancelled when, in fact, they signed up?
Well, I know the service works and that it's the best cost other than going with one of those online based deals. But, I am a tad worried about whether they really have their ducks in a row over there. Guess I'll see later.
