I love my Uverse. The installation was quick for me (I live in a newer building so the connections that they needed were there). The technician that came out was timely and very nice. The service representatives were really nice as well. The DVR works great and I love that I can access it online from anywhere. I can delete and set recordings on my computer instead of taking the time to run through the menus at home. It's so much quicker. All around I like it better than Cox. With Uverse, you get a lot more channels for your dollar. I have ~300 channels which includes all the movie channels except for cinemax and HBO (Showtime, Encore, TMC, etc. etc.). Cox was charging me over $90 to include 2 movie channels...AND THAT WAS ON PROMOTION! Regular price for 2 movie channels + DVR with COX is over $100. The regular price for the U300 is $80 but they're running promotions to make it even cheaper.
I was tired of Cox. They were charging a lot for what I was getting (cable TV with 2 movie channels and a DVR) but I didn't have any other option to they exploited that fact. I was getting internet from AT&T and TV from COX because bundling with COX was actually more expensive than having separate bills. Now I've bundled with AT&T and it is much cheaper than I had it before and I get more channels and features than I did with Cox. The Cox system was really flaky also. Their system would have technical difficulties and so my system would freeze and I'd have to wait for them to do whatever work they were doing and reboot. Their user interface was really slow as well.
The cancellation call with Cox:
The COX representative was very rude to me when I called. She tried to convince me to stay saying that UVerse was more expensive but she compared Cox cheap service without a DVR with a Uverse package that included movie channels AND a DVR.
Me: But Cox charges a DVR rental fee and I get movie channels with the U300.
Her: Well Uverse builds the DVR into their pricing.
Me: Yes, but even with it built in, they're still cheaper than a comparable channel package + DVR rental at Cox.
After it was clear that I knew that they were Uverse was cheaper, she begrudgingly offered to not charge the DVR rental fee but I was fed up with Cox. Even if you don't want to move to Uverse, call Cox and at least threaten to switch so they'll cut you a deal. AT&T is not openly disclosing exactly where they're offering Uverse so Cox will never know if you're in their area.
