Great netbook, but lacks in performance

3

The ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK Netbook is overall a very great netbook.  I bought this netbook because of the rave reviews about its portability and battery life.  These held true.  Its light, small with great battery life.  The main drawback of this netbook is the performance compared to laptops. Quality: The netbook's build quality is top notch, as expected from a company like ASUS.  There is little to no give in the keyboard, and the keyboard design makes it easy to type even though it is only 92% the size of a full sized.  The touchpad is very responsive and the raise dots make it easy to know where the touchpad is.  The mouse buttons are a single button that rocks back and forth, which is kind of strange at first, but you get used to it.  The screen has great viewing angle and is very bright. Features:  This netbook packs the Intel Atom N270 1.67GHz CPU, with Intel integrated graphics and 1GB of RAM.  This processor is okay for surfing the net, but watching flash videos or HD movies is definitely not one of the strong points of this computer.  Upgrading to the max 2GB is easy and a must if you want to run Win7.  I went from the preinstalled XP to Win7 to Jolicloud (a linux variant).  If you don't need windows only applications, installing linux is the way to go.  It makes this thing blazingly fast.  no DVD, but thats not a biggie. Overall: Lacking performance in the CPU and GPU, this netbook is little more than a computer to surf the net on. 7/10

I love my Asus Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK Netbook!

My family has a huge Mac in the kitchen but as there are six people in my house I barely get to use it. I'm a high school senior and I take classes at the local branch college, so I do need computer access to complete my work. This Netbook serves my purposes perfectly. It's as fast as the Mac and as portable as a paper notebook. It's light, it's small enough to not take up a significant amount of room, and it's highly affordable. I save everything to flash-drives instead of to the computer to keep from slowing it down. I've had it for almost a year and it's still faster than my older laptop and the computers at my high school. I've never had compatibility problems when I transfered documents from the Mac to the Netbook or vice versa, and I use the same printer for my Netbook as I do for the Mac with no issues whatsoever. Generally I prefer Apple products, but I need something cheap with a usb port (which the iPad does not offer), and this is definitely the best deal. I'd definitely recommend this Netbook to anyone who needs an extension of their home computer. It doesn't have a lot of memory and there's no disk drive, so it would be difficult to use this product as a home computer alone. For the money, you can't get a better deal.

Asus Eee PC 1005-HA

2

When we received our Asus Eee PC 1005-HA - I thought it was nice, small compact and just what I needed. However, the dicdrive was noisy, I could head it winding....the notebook did not work well without the use of an outside mouse. The pad is WAY to sensitive and caused a lot of problems. It's SLOW/ Then it is so hot, that you really can't use it on your lap. So it went on the table or on a pillow on my lap. The noise got louder and louder. Finally I called tech support - he said it was the hard drive and that it was going to fail real soon - he could hear the noise over the phone. The noise was maddening. Of course it was just out of warranty. So my choice was to send it in to have the hard drive replaced. Tech support could not tell me an approximation of what it was going to cost me to have the hard drive replaced. I looked on line about replacing the hard drive myself. Access to the hard drive is not easy and every review I read said don't bother. I am not a negative person. But if you are looking for dependability, ease of use and quality. Look to another notebook. Don't bother with this one. I will agree, it's light weight and portable, and has a long battery life, but I would expect it to last longer than 1 year.

Netbooks - Great Portability

4

I bought this netbook when my brother asked for a portable light weight laptop that he could carry with him since he goes all over the place so often. I knew a laptop was out of the option since they can become really heavy after carrying them for a prolonged amount of time, plus they're just too big. This netbook was a great choice. The Atom processors aren't the best CPUs and the 1GB memory isn't ideal, but it gets the job done. You can't really compare a netbook's performance against a normal laptop and PC, it would lose every time at everything. However, a netbook will beat an overpriced ipad anyday. It's great if you travel or simply just go out a lot and want to be able to do real work such as word processing and other office functions. I know most people nowadays are using their phones as their internet browser, but no one would use their phone to do word processing or excel spreadsheets. The size of a netbook is its best quality, but it can also be its worse. After hours of using the netbook for web browsing and chatting, I found that it was getting really annoying because everything is so small. But the bottom-line is, a netbook is a great investment if you're on the go a lot and want the ability to connect to the internet via wifi and do simple computer tasks.

Great Netbook!

This netbook is one of the best purchases I have ever made. Not only is it convenient, but it is also fast in start up time and also in internet browsing time. I am a college student, so I wanted something I could use that was lightweight and that could handle all the programs I needed for school. Instead of hauling around a 5 lb or more laptop, I decided to purchase this netbook to bring to class. Though the battery life claims to be 10 hours, it's actually only about 6-7 hours depending on the programs that are in use. Still, that's pretty good for a computer. I usually don't have to charge it at all until I come home from school after using it all day in class. I mainly use this netbook for the internet and Microsoft Word or Excel. None of the programs lag at all. The only downside is that the keyboard is a tad small which may bother some people, and the netbook collects dust and grime. Also, the screen is glossy, which means that when the sun is shining, you won't be able to see your screen outside. Overall, one of the best purchases I have ever made!
