The ASUS VH236H is amazing!

5

After using an old HP 15'' LCD for three years, I decided to upgrade to a new 1080p monitor. After looking around, I noticed this monitor has great reviews and is one of the cheapest 23'' monitors around. Out of the box it was a simple setup. Just put the monitor on its base, took off the wrapping, plugged it in and I was good to go. Picture quality is excellent. It took a little fiddling around in the menu settings, which takes time to get used to. But that isn't such a big deal because you have to only do it once. Gaming on this monitor is great. I mainly play TF2 and I have experienced no ghosting what so ever. On the other hand, movies with deep blacks do not turn out so well, but most LCD's suffer the same fate anyways. I did test the speakers, and they are what you expect, pretty cheap. But that is why you buy seperate speakers. I didn't have any dead pixels which is a huge plus. With a three year warranty, I am very happy with this purchase. I would recommend this monitor to anyone who is looking for a cheap 1080p monitor for gaming.

good first monitor

4

This monitor is pretty good for the money. I'll make no mistake, this uses a TN panel which is inferior to IPS panel monitors. But what I like about this monitor is that it is very fast, it is only 2ms, which makes it very good for fast-paced gaming. So if you do a lot of FPS shooting type of games, like if you play a lot of COD4 or play a lot of unreal tournament or counter strike than this monitor is very good since it has such a high speed. But of course you sacrifice on the image quality and image quality is nowhere near as good as on IPS panel monitors. This monitor is very cheap and provides ample space so it is a good first time widescreen monitor. The base and stand is very basic but it works. the monitor is nearly all-black which I like.

Stuck pixel

I used to like this thing but now that I have a stuck pixel the experience has been somewhat tarnished. The stuck pixel stays one color (at least it's better than a dead pixel) and is very visible when you are watching a movie or playing a game with a black border. Fortunately for me it's not in the very middle of the screen or that would be very very annoying. Before I got the stuck pixel the monitor was working alright for me, with nothing really fascinating or anything bad about the VH236H. I tried all kinds of methods to get rid of the stuck pixel but nothing really worked. I tried software as well as hardware approaches, using flashing screen applications and using the tapping methods outlined in guides. I really hope this is not an Asus trend and I hope their other monitors are more reliable. I wanted to purchase another Asus monitor to have two but this stuck pixel is really ruining things for me. The Asus is cheap though so it might be worth the gamble.

great for gaming

This is a great monitor for computer games. It is also great for other things as well like watching movies and for doing photoshop, but for gaming it has been excellent. The monitor uses TN panels, which are inexpensive and of decent quality. They are not the most high quality panels however, and this fact is reflected into the price of the Asus VH236H monitor. THe monitor is 23 inches and is an LCD monitor. The resolution is 1920X1080p, which is good for youtube as well as movies that you rented. It's great for gaming because the colors are vivd and clear. There is also a low response time, which means that quick actions in a first person shooter will be displayed on time before you get shot in a game. For gamers this is really important. This monitor does decently in photoshop but i recommend you get an IPS panel for photoshop and other photo editing software since the color accuracy is much better on an IPS panel than a TN based panel like the Asus. But for the money, the Asus VH236H is quite good.

Nice screen

The Asus VH236H is used for my main desktop computer and I am digging it so far. I think it's very well worth the price. This monitor is 23 inches wide, which I think is a right balance between screen size and space size on your desk. You have to keep in mind that the larger the screen, the bigger the space it's going to occupy on your desk. For some it's not a concern but for me it is since I have two desktops sitting on top of my desk. I change accessories on my motherboard constantly and I cannot have the two cases sitting on the floor for this reason. Because it shares space with my Asus monitor, it's imperative for me that the monitor does not occupy too much space. At the same time, it's important that my monitor be big enough for movies and for productivity. With a twenty three inch monitor like the VH236H from Asus, you can set two different tabs of internet explorer or firefox side by side and read them, which is a great feature and a great way to boost your productivity.

great monitor for gaming!

this is a great solution for competitive gamers who are serious about input lag in their lcds. most lcd screens relay images with a slight delay which isnt noticeable to the casual gamer, but can make all the difference to someone that is serious about winning in FPS or fighting games. contrary to popular belief, response time on monitors does not affect lag in games at all. this monitor has a lot less input lag than most other lcds--close to CRT level but not quite. it will make a difference if you play competitively. i bought this monitor and my win rates for a fighting game i play went up by 15-20%, since people werent able to get away with moves that are easily punished on block anymore. it has an hdmi input and also has a standard audio jack output, for use with headphones or other speakers. i use some portable speakers for this system when i am taking it to tournaments because the speakers built in are barely audible in loud environments. when playing in normal environments though, the speakers built in are definitely enough. one con which i will cite for knocking off a point is the tv is not very responsive sometimes; for instance, if you are transitioning between inputs or you just turned off a component outputting to the tv, the tv wont respond right away if you hit the power button--it takes a few presses and they dont register until a second or two later.

Great ASUS monitor

I purchased my ASUS monitor several months ago, from the NewEgg online store. When the monitor arrived I seen a great looking black wide screen monitor. The monitor did work fine, but I noticed a strange lime colored dot. I tried everything to "repair" the monitor, but it was impossible. On the other hand the monitor works great, and I barely see the lime colored dot (stuck pixel), because it's on the top of the screen. I didn't have any problem with the monitor so far. The wide screen is great, everything looks sharp on the screen, the colors are amazing, so the performance of the monitor is kinda perfect, except that tiny little dot. Because that, it's only a 4 stars item on my scale. Would I purchase this monitor? Yes, definately I would. The cost was also good.
