Most HelpfulI have been going down to my parents home on Saturdays to help out and drive back in the early evenings. I like to like to listen to the radio, but was getting tired of the music I was listening too so I thought I would do the old flipping of the stations.
I have seen the movie "A Prairie Home Companion"...

Most HelpfulAs anyone knows who has regularly read my reviews knows I am a habitual NPR (National Public Radio) listener. Those of us who listen and are members of our local Public Radio stations have our favorite shows, but A Prairie Home Companion which airs every Saturday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. after All...
review »I like Robert Altman, but not every movie he's ever made.
I am not a big fan of the radio show--though I guess you could say I respect it and appreciate the tradition Garrison and others are continueing.
I do not like Country Music.
As the move went into production-- and I wondered why Altman was doing this one first rather than a film centering around the ART world which would be a nice follow up for his fine film about the dance world; The Company.
I asked a friend about the radio show and some of the recurring characters so that when the movie came out, I could GET it. You really don't need...

Those of us who listen and are members of our local Public Radio stations have our favorite shows, but A Prairie Home Companion which airs every Saturday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. after All Things Considered Weekend Edition, is not one of mine. I find the program just a touch too cutesy and boring for my tastes.
And so I was a bit surprised when it was announced the a movie would be made from the rather bland radio broadcast (staring) the real live host Garrison Keillor who has a face...
review »As an NPR listener and fan of Prairie Home Companion and Garrison Keiler, in general, I found this film to be largely disappointing. Altman has done wonders with ensemble casts (e.g. Nashville, M*A*S*H), but this is not one of his exemplary works. The film drags on, the storyline is inane and unnecessary and the ending in unsatisfactory. All in all, I'd save my money and go see a live show of Prairie Home Companion, any day.
Waste of talented actors like Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, etc. The movie wasn't surreal enough to be quirky. The story was bizarre and not in a good way. The mysterious character remained just that; never did figure out who or what the girl in white was.I'm not a big Robert Altman fan, but unlike his other films that are at least watchable, this one wasn't.
Do not recommend.
