A Hot Dog Stand in the Himalayas arrived in my mail at noon. By 2:30, I was ready to read this wise and slender (108 pages) book again. It should be no surprise that A Hot Dog Stand in the Himalayas, written by Deb Martin-Webster (aka GrandmawsOpinion), is a remarkable book. Many of us Viewpointers know that author Deb writes with grace, good humor and sensitivity to the simple joys of life.
This time, Deb speaks in the voice of Sammie, the granddaughter who spends many precious days with Grandmom and Pop-Pop while her mother, a doctoral student, teaches at the local university. Sammie's Introduction puts us in touch with the love and loveliness of this book.
Grandmom and Pop-pop always told me if you can dream it, you can live it. I once told Grandmom that I dreamt I had a palace in India, so Grandmom and I built one out of boxes, playing blocks, and bed sheets. Afterwards, I told her it was nice but it wasn't a real palace. She told me, 'It is if you believe it is.' My grandparents and I built many dreams together. My special memories and stories pay tribute to their never-ending dreams.
Whether you've shared a loving, affectionate, and imaginative relationship with a grandparent or grandchild or whether you've just dreamed of it, A Hot Dog Stand In the Himalayas strikes the heart and funnybone. Deb Martin-Webster has cast its fully functional relationships with perfect pitch.
I left my chair once while reading this book. When I returned, my husband Pal was reading Chapter Three and laughing heartily. Tonight we looked at GrandmawsOpinion Photo Gallery where A Hot Dog Stand's characters come to life. The book is dedicated to Deb and Pete's granddaughter Samaya.
The stories were our gift from her, written down and given back to her so that they might not be lost. Like all true gifts they are, as well, for everyone.
You can read the 31 brief chapters of A Hot Dog Stand to a child, another adult, or simply for your own pleasure. Published by AuthorHouse, A Hot Dog Stand is available online at Amazon.com, Ebay's Half.com, Alibris.com, through the publisher's store, and at other book outlets, as well.
This would make a very fine holiday gift!
