A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM (1966)  —

A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it sure is mine.

Based on a melange of Roman plays, filtered through vaudeville with a touch of burlesque, this movie keeps me laughing from start to finish. The wonderful cast, physical comedy, ludicrous situations, slapstick, satire, and great script just keep coming at you. While Zero Mostel is nominally the star of the film in the role he played on Broadway, Phil Silvers steals the show.

The tunes are memorable, the cinematography great, and I defy you to be gloomy after watching it.

A really great piece of musical comedy!
