THis book told the story of a man who seemed to have no scruples but I ended up believing he loved both women and did not have the sanity to find a way out of the problem he created.    He went for the passion and ended up destroying more lives than just the death of his wife.  His child will grow up with no mother, a father in prison for killing the mother.  problably only one set of grandparents.   The judge he had the affair with was a weak willed woman who fell for his stories.  Her career was destroyed. and his wife who seemed to be happily married   Killed in her happiest state.  He is a scary monster because he is a well spoken, seemingly intelligent man who didnt have the morals of a cat.    The scariest part is that there are probably more men and a few women who are just like him, and they hide behind masks of respectability  The book was rich in details and tried to be as honest to all parties as possible
