Just a few days before our son's wedding I burned my hand while heating up food. It was a nasty burn. Although I had products in our medicine cabinet I wanted to try something new so I bought a 1.5 ounce tube of A+D First Aid Ointment Skin Protectant for under $5.00.

The claims

Made by Shering-Plough in the U.S.A. the company claims that A+D First Aid Ointment Skin Protectant is good for cuts, dry cracked skin, burns, scrapes, chapped lips and that it helps protect our skin from the affects of wind and cold weather.

Warnings and Ingredients

A+D First Aid Ointment Skin Protectant is for external use only and we are warned not to get the ointment in our eyes. We are also told that this is not for animal bites and serious burns or medical conditions.

The active ingredients are lanolin and petroletum which are skin protectors. I am not sure I would use this on my lips frankly because of the petroletum.

The inactive ingredients are cod liver oil which has Vitamins A & D, fragrance, light mineral Oil, microcrystalline wax,  and paraffin.

My Experiences

I wish I could say that A+D First Aid Ointment dried my burn and I went to the wedding burn free but I can't. I can say that the burn healed very quickly. I kept a bandage over the A+D First Aid Ointment for the first couple of days and then I just kept putting it on and leaving my hand uncovered.

Smelling it right now for this review I can't say it is all that pleasant of an odor. It smells medicinal but on my hand there was no telltale sign of A+D First Aid Ointment. It is a thick, greasy ointment that goes on clear.

I believe that because of A+D First Aid Ointment I don't have as bad a scar as I would have had if I didn't use this. There is a red mark but it isn't nasty. So I say thumbs up to A+D First Aid Ointment

Sorry to hear you burned yourself. I also did a review on the A & D Baby ointment and it can be used for minor burns, cuts and scrapes. See A&D isn't just for baby's butts anymore :+)

I thought A&D was only for diaper rash! Interesting review.
