Oh yeah here in Wisconsin winter is upon us and let me tell you the patio door does have it's drafts, but I nipped in the butt with 3M Indoor Insulator film mounting tape.

I was told about this from someone at work and surprised I never heard of this.  I used to use the 3M patio door plastic that shrinks to fit and it does work wonders, but it has always made me a tad nervous having the whole door covered up all winter...I guess claustrophobic?

Well I found the tape and it's about an inch and a half wide, looks like regular tape, but thicker.  Just rubbed the area down with rubbing alcohol, let it dry and just put the tape over the seam of the door and by gosh it grabbed to the frame and no more drafts.  Simple and I was done in less then five min.

I wouldn't use this on wood framed windows because come spring it can take some of the finish off.  I did test this on my bedroom windows and did take a bit of finish off and I didn't even press it down.

If you have a patio door that lets the breeze through your losing heat so keep it in with 3M.

I found this at my local Ace Hardware store with the 3M products. Avg cost $5.

Not a problem we share down in South Florida. Nicely done.

It's bad enough for me to have the windows shut all winter. We live in an apartment and there are those days where others crank their heat us so high we don't bother turning ours on and at time we have to open the patio door in Jan. I have had to do this already and the tape came right off and went back on fine without using new tape.

That's a good idea. I go nuts when we're all closed in. I want to poke hole sin the plastic. Yes, I know I'm nuts. That was established very early in my life. lol.

I am very please wit this tape and I was boiling water and went to check to see if the tape was staying and it was. I was surprised and happy to see that.

I am thinking of getting a thin piece of wood, the width of the window and tiny nails (just two should do) and then put my 3M tape on that and my window since the cill is the only part that is wood. My mind is always working hehehehee

I lived in Upper Michigan for two years and I don't remember the cold as much as all that darn snow and then some more snow LOL.

I feel the same way about that shrink wrap that encloses my windows and certain doors completely. Ugh. It's freezing here in NY but I won't let my husband encase us in plastic. I like this idea MUCH better! Too bad it will take off the finish of the windows. It almost may be worth it though.

Lived in Michigan for 3 years. I get chills just thinking about it!

I'm going to try this. Chicagoland gets mighty cold as well. (BTW, I love the pics by your mom. They're gorgeous...they would make fabulous Christmas cards) :)

We had 30-40 a mile winds (very cold winds)...Nasty!!
This tape is so much easier then those large plastic sheets. (no blow dryer required :)
