300 Review

300 does so much for so many different reasons.  Visually, the movie creates an atmosphere that's unlike others.  Of course, this effective atmosphere can be credited to the use of great visual special effects throughout the film.  To compliment the effects are actors like Gerard Butler who make you feel the challenge faced by King Leonidas and the rest of the 300 Spartan warriors who sought to defend their nation against Xerxes and his Persian invaders.  While the movie easily earns its R rating due to the graphic content of the fight scenes and the occasional nudity, the rating does not diminish the powerful storytelling as the movie engages the audience from start to finish.  The movie serves to not only create a stunning visual masterpiece, but it furthers the viability of movies based on comic book properties.  What many movie-goers didn't realize while watching this film is that 300 is the product of one of comics' great talents, Frank Miller.  Frank Miller created the graphic novel 300 as well as another visual stunner, Sin City.  Overall, 300 has earned its place amongst the best films released in recent years and will certainly stand the test of time as audiences continue to experience this electrifying film over and over again for years to come.
