The spouse and I watched this and can only say that was a couple hours of our life we'll never get back. The acting was so bad and the lines so over the top that it was a terribly funny film, even when it wasn't trying to be. Led to a lot of jokes around our house that began with "Spartans!" drawn out loudly with extra phlem in a bad British accent for appropriate drama.
While the imagery was interesting to watch for a short period of time, the whole overly CGI/ comic booky feel prevented us from being even the slightest bit sympathetic to the characters. Even the overly sculpted bodies of the men seemed to be artificial to the point they looked like overgrown boys wearing last year's Halloween muscle costume. The movie did try to include actual tidbits of historical fact, but they were masked by such ridiculously contrived surroundings and delivered in such grandiose inflections that they seemed equally unbelievable. And don't get me started on the overly bedazzled professional wrestler meets drag queen character that was Xerxes.
Probably a great movie to those who spend their lives in second life or going to Star Wars conventions. But if you are looking for a good historical drama, you probably would like to skip this one.
