When I saw 28 Days Later, which is prequel to this movie, I thought that it had a really interesting story that could have at least one, if not two, more movies made from it. 28 Weeks Later turned out to be really good. I mean really good.
Plot: Six months after the outbreak of the Rage Virus in the British Isles, the U.S.Army steps in to help rebuild a small part of London for survivors to repopulate and try to resume a normal life. Unfortunately, when the virus is reintroduced, the savage murdering begins again.
This movie is extremely gory. I have one scene burned into my mind...a scene that involves a women, her eyes, brains, and blood. I'm still haunted by it.. and that was 3 months ago. So be ready for some extreme violence, but also some unique plot twists and amazing special effects. The story proceeds nicely and there's some nice character development along the way. This is another one of those movies that really convey some intense emotions. One of the main actors, Robert Carlyle, gives an amazing performance. Most especially when he is first affected by the Rage Virus. The child actors in the movie also did a great job, which would have ruined the movie if they hadn't.
I'm glad that this time around, the story actually progressed and didn't stagnate in a story the same as the last one. The directing was also spot on. I'm not sure why they decided to change directors, but I'm glad they did. It feels like a completely different movie, without actually being different, if that makes sense.
I suggest seeing this movie if it's playing near you or wait until the DVD comes out, which shouldn't be too far away.
MPAA Rating: R (for strong violence and gore, language and some sexuality/nudity)
Runtime: 1 hour 39 minutes
Rating(out of 10): 8.3
