2007 Mazda MAZDA6 —

It was time for a new car.  I have not had a 4 cylindar car since the first car I had at 17 (way too many years ago).  I am most at home driving a V6.  I was assured that 4 cylindar cars have come a long way since way back then.  I have always heard that they get MUCH better gas mileage.  I needed a low price lease and was pushed into this purchase by the salesmen on a Saturday evening (when I thought it would be safe to car shop as there wouldn't be time to be pushed).

I had the car a few weeks when we took a trip to Virginia.  In town I was getting barely 25 miles more to a tank than I did driving a 6 cylindar with the same size tank.  Last year I had taken that car to Virginia and got 450 miles to my tankful on the way down.  This year, in my brand new 4 cylindar Mazda6 we were packed in tight.  There was barely room for the luggage in the trunk and I was packed light as it was mainly beachwear for me and my two sons.  No one was overly comfortable but this was going to be an economical trip...NOT!  I got less than 350 miles to the tank with this 4 cylindar - a full 100 miles less than my roomy 6 cylindar with its significantly larger trunk and more legroom.

The only good thing about this little box is that the lease is only for 24 months and I am counting them down already.

I have already had to go in for service.  The quality of the service staff was nasty and poor at best.  Every experience I have had at the Mazda dealership has been a HUGE disappointment.

Do yourself a BIG favor if you are in the market for a smaller car - go see a Nissan Altima which after the fact I learned I could have leased for about the same or less.  I also had planned to consider another Saturn but with the pushy salespeople at Mazda I never had a chance to view anything else.

Wow, can't believe your horrible gas mileage with this car. I'm like you and prefer a V6 and a bit larger :) Comfort makes all the difference on those long trips!
