I recently purchased what I believe to be a 2005 Anniversary Mustang. It has the red/white/blue stripe emblem with the pony on the side. I was pleasantly surprised that this Mustang is faster and more agile than the last Mustang I bought in 1989. It delivers bold styling, rear-drive performance and affordability that Mustang is known for, it's smoother and quieter and better built than older models.
The headlight configuration and grille shape of the Mustang mimics the originals, with round headlamps and the forward-swept orientation of the grille. Mustangs have long had side scoops, and continues that tradition, it also incorporates fastback styling - a Mustang trademark from its early days. Though the Mustang taillights are less like some of its other design characteristics, the resemblance is still there.
It's quieter and better built, and it rides more smoothly. Its interior is a throwback to the original Mustang; it's functional and well finished.
With a few modifications to my 05 Mustang, like changing the single exhaust to duals, and adding fog lights in the grill, I have a Mustang V6 Pony with all the show, if not the go, of the V8 GT.
A family car, the Mustang isn't. Interior space is limited, and the back seat might be better for storage. However, my daughters enjoy the ride and the sound of the dual exhaust. The Ford Mustang is an American success story. It holds true to an idea that still appeals to people of all ages, decades after the original was launched. Forty-three years after it created an automotive niche all its own, Mustang is both true to its roots and better than ever.
The Ford Mustang has been an icon of American performance since its introduction in 1964. It created the pony car genre, and after 40-plus years of competition with the Barracuda, Camaro, Firebird and others, it's the only one left, and I'm glad it's still here and is an absolute joy to drive, making all the right sounds, tenaciously hanging onto corners, and delivering thrilling acceleration performance.
They took the really good ideas from the original, not exactly the way they were, but the way most of us baby boomers remember it, and mix it with new generation ideas. The design established emotional bonds such as the ones we had for the original Mustang.
With a five-speed-automatic gearbox and an average 28-33 MPG on the highway, it is fun and enjoyable to spend the day cruising. The interior is comfortably modern with bucket seats, billet-aluminum trim on the dashboard, steering-wheel spokes and console, all helps to maintain the clean, functional appearance of the driving environment.
With this redesigned Mustang, the Mustang gives a strong indication of the direction in which the pony car is headed: back to its roots.
