George Orwell's 1984 is the most compelling and interesting novel I have ever read. This book was assigned to me while I was in high school and then again in college. I was so happy to see them choose an excellent book such as this, where I can take the time to read it again and be faced with the horrifying feeling that the situations expressed in this book could be happening in front of our eyes. If you are a fan of Animal Farm, which was also an excellent book that focuses on the government, then this book should be next for you to read. This book has everything. You will be confused as to who the good and the bad are (in regards to people and the government). You will also be exposed to Big Brother (which could be a person or just the government in itself, you would have to read to get the full effect) who watches every move you make through your television and cameras throughout the city. You will feel insecure as to who you could trust and if the government should be trusted at all because they know everything you do. No romance could be expressed in this world that George Orwell created and no one could be who they want to be. Children are shown as turning in their parents, who oppose the government, to the authorities because they are brainwashed completely by the government. This book also could be compared to the Nazi and Hitler era as well as the government now who would like to control the lives of its citizens. Great book and very controversial! The ending is unexpected and once again horrifying!
