1408 —

Now plenty of people are avid Stephen King readers, I am one of them.  Many people are avid movie goers when John Cusack touches the big screen, I am also this person.  Imagine my delight when I found out that one of my favorite actors was making a horror movie based on a short story by my all time favorite author!  Now when I say short story by Stephen King, I mean short.  This book story is about a man that goes to a hotel to write a review based on it's actual "scare" factor.  The main character in the story is a famous book writer that dispels old haunted folklore stories and credits valid ones by staying over night in the "haunted" place.  His most recent story is to be based on a night stay in "famous 1408".  The hotel manager tries to dissuade him from staying in the room by telling him stories that would chill most people to the core but this skeptical writer wants in, it's his job!  From the moment the writer steps onto the floor of the room he starts to be effected by the dark power emanating from it.  The book story is called a short for a reason, shortly after he enters the room, the story is over with a brief paragraph about how he only had 20 minutes of record data while in the room and really no other recollection.  With all that in mind and a movie illuminating the big screen I was crazed to see how it would all work out.  I was pleasantly surprised that the entire basis of the book story was captured and added to in an unobtrusive manner that worked for the big screen.  As many may know, Stephen King can often be butchered when he hits the box office but not this time.  He seemed to have left open an endless array of possibilities for any movie maker out there and they worked their magic!!  John Cusack executes the skeptical writer to a T and Samuel L. Jackson does an amazing job as the disgruntled hotel manager that has no option but to let Cusack in.  A must see for any fan of King and Cusack!!
